I love this place! the sandwiches are delicious and huge (could easily feed me two meals if I weren't so gluttonous!), the fries are tasty and THEY HAVE A PICKLE BAR! I've tried several of the sandwiches but always return to the Delight. Breakfast is also good though I think there are better places in the area. I had a crab cake eggs benedict recently and that was quite good!

What a hidden gem! First, it's one of the few legit Jewish delis that carries a vegetarian matzoh ball soup. Second, they have a great beer and wine section and you can snag any small items on your way out the door - like kosher chocolate sauce or some tune salad for sandwiches. It's also super fast - but if you want to kill time while waiting for a carryout order then you can go two doors down to the food co-op and get your grocery shopping done. The food was also really great. The Greek salad was a huge portion size and the ingredients were really fresh. The latkes were so perfectly fried it was amazing and they come with homemade applesauce instead if store bought crap. The soups (vegetarian and chicken based) were both faaaantastic! The cabbage rolls were awesome too. I suspect bad reviews for this place might be from folks who don't miss their Grandma's matzoh ball soup and latkes. Don't expect fancy but do expect good Jewish comfort food.

The menu is really diverse and there's something for everyone. The service was fast and professional. Portions are large and there was enough for us to take food home. The food is simple but well prepared.

Sort of completely, mindbogglingly AWESOME. Here's something you don't see every day: ENDLESS PICKLE BAR. Is that not enough for you? then you are cracked. Also, ON this endless pickle bar are easily the BEST pickled beets I have ever had in my life. Seriously, you are enticed to eat enough beets so that you will SWEAR you're internally hemorrhaging for DAYS, but you won't care, because the beets were THAT delicious. Everything was awesome. The food, the staff, seriously good eats. I had a corned beef sandwich and it was radtastic. The soup was excellent. Just, wonderful place. Also, the coconut cake was REALLY good. All of the cakes looked amazing, but I was intimidated by the sheer size of the carrot cake. It's just, REALLY tall. Scary, but I'm sure, also delicious. I was in the area for a trip to NIH and let me say, it is WORTH being a medical mutant to get to try out this deli. Well, no, but still, REALLY good food!
(5)Michael J.
As a regular, breakfast, lunch or dinner, you can't go wrong. The pancakes, omelets and sandwiches are top notch. the best Ruben in town! Delicious onion rings and fries. Explore the pickle bar and atmosphere!
(4)N V.
Ordered a simple turkey and cheese sandwich, got all the way home and bit into the sandwich, and then noticed they left an entire sheet of the deli paper inside my sandwich. They also didn't add the cheese. Terrible. The few times I've been there they have messed up my order in some way.
(1)Lina K.
Love love love the deli. Food is always amazing and fresh. What I also love are the milkshakes/ malts because they taste like real milkshakes, not just sugar (like the ones at mcdonalds). Love going there for lunch and breakfast there is amazing. The only problem is that it's usually crowded, even on a good day so wouldn't recommend going there if you are in a rush.
(4)Chug N.
Yes! It is rare to come across a deli with this quality. Matzoh Ball soup was the best I've ever had -- the sandwiches perfect and the what a bonus the pickle bar is. The omelet I had was good -- stuffed full of vegetables. The desserts looked good -- unfortunately we didn't partake. There is a store in the front you can buy deli items and beer and wine. Go and you won't be disappointed.
(4)Rhianna B.
Parkway is our go-to breakfast spot. It has a large selection of Jewish specialties as well as traditional breakfast favorites. It's always crowded but worth the short wait to get a table. They also have a pickle bar!

Bourbon Baconcheeseburger $9 (5/5 NOMs) Hot burger mama. The bourbon sauce is just amazing!!! I asked for extras so I can take some home hehe. I don't usually come here for burgers, but it was try new kind of a day. This burger came highly recommended by a great waitress and burger was very nomnom. Latkes, Lox & Eggs $10 (5/5 NOMs) Best breakfast is at dinner. Perfect dish from one of our favorite places. Two latkes (potato pancakes) topped with nova and 2 eggs. Just love the two runny eggs going everywhere. get a little bit of everything in every bite for a nomnom time in your mouth. Potato pancakes were very thick and were more like patties. The hidden gem of this dish that really brought out the flavor was the apple pure. It was not on the menu and made for a nice surprise. Excellent dish that I'm excited to have again. Beef Stroganoff $12 (4/5 NOMs) Go strong with stroganoff. Its a thick layer of beef with mushrooms and onions on top of very soft noodles. Not just a little bit of beefy goodness, that whole thing is covered with yummy sauce. I just love the beef and sour cream sauce mixture. Comes with your choice of any sides from their extensive list. Its a pretty hefty dish with a big portion. May appear small at first, but will fill you up. Thought my stomach might explode. Don't recommend do what we did and eat the whole thing, but so worth it. Great representation of this popular Russian dish.

Awesome hole in the wall! Place is cozy and homey. Food is great, but make sure you get the right dessert. I had the wrong one brought out, but it was still good. And my server was so, so nice. Try it out if you like mama- papa shops. ;)
(5)Nicole W.
Looked good on the plate- but really not impressed with the breakfast. Food arrived cold- like cold enough that the cheese in my omelette didn't melt. I'm not a good complainer, and hardly picky- it just wasn't that great. Got fries on the side- also cold, and soggy. Best thing was my English muffin. Wouldn't get breakfast here again- but some of the lunch options I saw pass by looked pretty good. I was totally excited too...
(3)Heather J.
I like this place. I've been coming for years and it hasn't changed a bit. The food is all pretty good (but not amazing) and reasonably priced. I got the veggie omelet on my most recent visit and it was fine - the veggies were fresh and the flavor was good. The hashbrowns desperately needed salt, though. The pickle bar is good for the most part - the beets and pickles are great, but the carrot-raisin salad has way too much mayo in it. People rave about the matzo ball soup here, but I think it's too greasy - the broth is actually opaque because of the grease. The matzo ball soup at Woodside Deli is much better. I think your best bet here is breakfast. You probably won't be disappointed, but you probably won't be wowed, either.
(3)Willio J.
The food is great but it takes a while for it to be ready. I highly recommend the Strawberry cheesecake.

And this review goes toooo...... the most awkward lunch I've ever had in my life. There are two parts to this place, the deli and the restaurant. The lines are so long that they have to break it into two lines. The line ends at the front door of the deli but I promise, it moves as fast as a Chipotle line... that's fast. The wait wasn't that long even though it was about 15-20 people in front of us. We were seated at a table that was uncomfortably close to the tables next to us, it is pretty crammed in there. The table next to us was having the most awful family drama you could imagine, and they we're discrete about it either! At one point the girl cussed out her uncle and stormed out of the restaurant, to him chasing after her... and the grown woman was pregnant... it was a mess! I thought I was on that show "What Would You Do" it was terrifying. Anyways... we ordered the matzo ball soup, which tasted just like chicken noodle soup but with a big matzo ball in the middle. Personally, I wasn't a fan of the matzo ball texture. To me it tasted like a soggy ball of bread. I ordered the reuben sandwich with turkey. It was ok but the turkey wasn't as juicy as the drama going on at the next table. I was completely stuffed walking out of there. The service was super fast, it has to be to turn the tables over. The waitress was very nice and helpful. The food could use a little more love, the pickle bar wasn't anything special.

Last night, we were coming back from Annapolis and wanted to go to Parkway...the kitchen was going to close at 9:30. Unfortunately, with parking and a slow-moving kid on crutches, it was 9:35 when we hit the door. The crew was already cleaning up and the dining room was closed. They took a look at my son and without missing a beat said, what will you have? They kept the kitchen open and made him a philly cheese steak and the manager came over to find out how he'd hurt his ankle. The food was wonderful as always, but this kindness and attention is why we have been coming to Parkway for 20 years
(5)John K.
This is an old school deli with an unlimited pickle bar. I repeat: unlimited pickle bar!!! I'll say this too: the one kind of weird thing about this place is that despite the old school deli vibe to the place--think dark lighting, vinyl booths, traditional jewish deli menu--they have modern right-angled plates. Just a weird thing that seems funny. I've gotten a bunch of stuff here, but let me just say that the fried chicken is delicious. Talked to a waiter and she said that it used to be a special, but it was so popular, that they had to make it a daily thing. Get the fried chicken, and eat pickles to your heart's content.
(4)Rhex X.
Love this place! They have a great pickle bar. The place is clean, cozy and food is great and fresh! Will definitely come back. Don't forget to try their Lox plate for 2.... Yum!
(4)Empress Miko E.
My husband suggested we patronize this restaurant for breakfast...i was in need of a delicious breakfast and i received, thanks. I will eat here again and suggest to others.

I grew up on the parkway deli and I was raised Jewish. If there is one thing we know about anything it's a good deli. Parkway has everything you'll need or want there or to go. These are my top 5 maybe 10 things I like when I hit P-way. Matzoh Ball Soup - some of the best I've ever had. Raised on this stuff, its in my blood or part of my DNA, one or the other. Fries with Gravy - brown and delicious, top with pepper and eat it with a fork you putz Deli Twins - pastrami, check, corned beef, check, onion roll check flipping orgasmic oh yes Pumpernickle Bagel with cream cheese Nova and a side of whitefish salad - all the fixins, a little lemon juice, perfecto Delite - oh boy Hot open face Brisket or Turkey - on a cold day with the Matzoh Ball soup Pickle Bar - enough said Dr Browns Black Cherry - complements it all perfectly Black and white shake So as you can see that's a lot of food so bring your appetite. Oh and on the weekends there can be a line to the door so be patient my little mutzie pooper

This is probably the best deli I've had in the DC area. Not quite at mind-blowing NYC levels, but still authentic and delicious in its own right. Definitely worth the 30 minute drive (mostly stuck in traffic) from VA. My favorite items are anything involving the corned beef or pastrami, matzoh ball soup, potato salad and the pickle bar. I would definitely recommend getting a hamantaschen cookie on your way out. They are so incredible. My absolute favorite bakery item. Also, they have Dr. Brown's Cel-Ray! If you order take out keep in mind the bread (I always choose rye) will get soggy from the moisture, condensation and condiments/sauces. It's always better to eat in the restaurant. The service sometimes seems unfriendly and/or put out, but I don't really mind as long as the food is delicious. But yeah, sometimes I feel like I'm bothering them asking for something and it shouldn't be like that. But NYC deli service is even worse. You go for the food, not the ambiance.
(4)Rebecca S.
Loved it! We ordered Reubens. I had the corned beef and pastrami, and my friend had the regular corned beef. They were delicious and gooey, and we'd both come back just for another. We loved the pickle bar, too - it would be nice to see a spicy pickle added, but what was there was delicious. Highly recommend the matzo ball soup as well - Yumm!
(4)Meg C.
Delicious deli that we often travel from Northern Virginia to eat at. I usually get the French Dip sandwich and it's perfect. Don't forget the pickle bar and to stop and pick up your lunch meat to take home! They also have really good baked goods, we always grab a cannoli on the way out.
(4)Libby F.
I love that I can walk to this place from my home. I never have a problem convincing a pal to join me here. My favorite food is breakfast food, and they have an expansive breakfast menu. I met Yelper, Deborah N. for breakfast here about a month ago and we both had their French toast. You can get two slices ($4.95) or three ($5.95). It's cheap, and satisfying. It's your typical diner style French toast on generic bread, but still good, and not $14.00 for a schmancy fancy version. I came back for dinner last night with a DC friend (told ya I could lure people in!). I had the other option I always order: Fresh mozzarella and pesto panini. It's huge, and slathered with pesto sauce. I took half home, so for $7.45 it was a cheap meal too! Plus, it came with a generous portion of thin & crispy fries, which I shared, of course, with my friend. Her grilled cheese did not come with fries. Her sandwich is listed under 'King Size' Sandwiches, but it is far from king sized. Yet, for $5.75 it is...wait for it...cheap! :) No wonder I like this place so much.
(4)Brian G.
Since 1963, this deli has been serving up the best Jewish deli experience in the dc metro area! The entire menu is huge and delicious, but be sure to have the Matzah Ball Soup (Also available in vegetarian version), the corn stuffing, and a Reuben. The menu is huge with lots of great options. The service is quick and includes a free pickle bar. I get the feeling you cant go wrong here as everything our party tried was a hit!
(5)Lily L.
Great local place. We love coming here for a place for dinner in our neighborhood. It's a great place for a warm, local meal. We love the matzo ball soup and corned beef sandwiches. It's really spot on for comfort American Jewish food. We are very glad it's here. It can be busy on the weekends but tends to move quickly.
(5)Deborah N.
Good food but dingy, uninspiring dining rooms. Could do with a remodel. My family has been getting takeout from the Parkway ever since I was a child. Haven't seen a remodel once. Takeout is generally good but can be inconsistent. Sometimes meats are cut properly and sometimes they are not. Also service at the takeout can be inconsistent. Sometimes competent and cheerful and sometimes surly. There was a longtime employee, Eric, who always got it right. Sorry to see he is gone. Still a great place for a corned beef sandwich, half a loaf of rye. Meh on the deli salads. Avoid the cole slaw. Also, on carry out, one thing that I really would like to recommend is the beef brisket sandwich. It's just sliced brisket, dry, no sauce. Great when you want something like corned beef but not as salty. For dine-in they have a pickle bar. Great for those who like pickles! Last time I ate there for breakfast I took a rare foray into French toast. It's just not my thing but I had a hankering. It was really good, and quite reasonable. Thanks to my fellow Yelper and dining companion Libby F. for the heads up!
(4)Robin O.
Because there are no more real Jewish Delis left in Maryland and because Parkway looks and tastes exactly like it did 35 to 45 years ago when I went as a young un' and is like a way cool time machine, I'm giving it 5 stars and I hope it stays in business forever! Mazel Tov!
(5)Natasha S.
Mmm... man do I love this place. Only con to this place is that it can be super busy. Especially on the weekends for breakfast/lunch. So, the couple times I tried to come here on a weekend I had to wait in line for a long time. They have a fairly small dining space probably because their entrance/carry out area is larger than most places. They have great traditional style kosher deli sandwiches. I love their pastrami. Even without having to order the king size sandwiches, just their standard sandwich has a generous amount of meat. One sandwich has about 1/2 lb of meat. I've had both the Reuben Grill and Delight. The Delight is definitely my favorite of them both. I haven't had much else from here, but look forward to trying their breakfast one of these days if I can get in before the rush.
(4)Sheryl S.
Excellent whitefish salad, smoked sable and herring in cream sauce. Have got to try other stuff, soon.
(3)Melissa O.
One of my favorite spots for brunch. Great Jewish diner. Love getting omelettes and bagels here. Variety of brunch/dinner specials. Extensive dessert menu. Can get crowded on weekends. The free pickle bar is a nice touch.
(5)james m.
got chicken soup w matzoh ball, half- chucked (baked) and spinach. first, let me say that the chicken soup was absolutely superb! The bread also very good. the chicken, however was dry and unimpressive. the spinach was cooked in the sense that it was not raw or underdone - there was just no evidence of culinary activity. NO butter or garlic. the spinach and the chicken at boston Market are much better
(2)Meggo B.
Aside from the motzah ball soup which was great, food was nothing specIal/a solid 2.5-3. Lean brisket and lean corned beef both under seasoned and dry, though to be somewhat expected. Blintzes clearly house made so that's a plus. Deducting a star for lack of cleanliness though. My unsweetened iced tea had a glob of some syrupy junk at the bottom which clearly was not part of the recipe. Gross. We won't be back.
(2)Bill S.
Food and matzoh ball soup are well worth the wait. Delicious. Eggs Benedict is great too.
(5)Jamie B.
This smaller shop has a variety of options, though in my opinion their matzoh ball soup is THE BEST thing around. Seriously! It's like crack! It's amazingly delicious, and if you're sick, there's nothing better! Highly, highly recommend this place.
(4)Cassandra A.
My roommate and I came here last night on the recommendation of her father and we were sooo happy with our experience! The place was really hopping for a Wednesday night, but probably because it was Rosh Hashanah. Her dad had the stuffed cabbage and knish, the roomie had a brisket melt sandwich with perfect handcut fries, and I went for a lox bagel sandwich with gooey mac n cheese. We loved it all and especially loved the pickle bar! We will definitely be back soon to try out more delicious things.
(4)Leslie B.
Yes, you might have to stand in line, but trust me, it is worth it. The Matzoball Soup is the best you can get outside of Manhattan, and the pickle bar rocks. The sandwiches are huge and quite delicious. It's a crowded, fun, yummy experience.
(5)Christopher E.
Nice Deli/Restaurant. Huge portions for breakfast and a good price. My go to place on those mornings when I had one too many the night before.
(4)Rob S.
when it comes to deli I am very picky. I've lived in DC for a year now and could never understand how such a diverse city could lack good New York style Deli. then I moved to Silver Spring and found this gem. they passed my first test which was kanish, kasha, and eggcream all on the menu. the second test, taste, was through the roof. Kanish was great (round not square), love the pickle bar, good tuna, nice size corned beef sandwich, GREAT cookies and I can't believe I found a place with belly lox! if you love kosher(ish) deli, miss the taste if good New York food you HAVE to check this out!
(5)Ryan B.
Stuffin the English Muffin! Your usual diner, though it is SO POPULAR with the locals. I got a bacon, cheese & egg omelet that was good, not spectacular or anything different. But the English Muffin was the best I've ever had! So that's what takes this review up from 3-to-4 stars.
(4)Brian F.
It gets better every time I go there. The food is very good, the other patrons are friendly, and the staff is excellent. I just brought my little girl there for dinner and the staff made the experience very family friendly. Our waitress was Katie who did a wonderful job.
(5)Dan M.
Cheap, quick, and delicious? Can't beat that. We came on a Sunday around 7 and were thrilled to get a booth without there being a line. We tried the matzoh ball soup (had to do it after seeing these reviews), mac and cheese, cheeseburger, and veggie omelette with toast. All were good. I kept going back to the mac and cheese, so creamy and perfectly cheesy without being overpowering. I have no complaints about any of the food but have to add that the portions were just what you want from a deli - the omelette came with hash browns and toast on the side, and they were great. The desserts all looked amazing. We had the tres leches cake, and it was just as moist and creamy as you want something filled with tres leches to be. I can't wait to try others, especially the coconut cream cake. That looked so good, too. Bonus points for getting to say, "I'm getting grub on Grubb." Extra bonus points for the nice little deli out front. They serve a variety of beer and sodas, including some nice craft sodas. I tried a butterscotch soda, strange but tasty, if you're into butterscotch candies.
(4)T L.
This place is great but be prepared to wait in line if you come during peak hours. I absolutely love the California BLT with Eggplant fries!!! The stuffed cabbage & potato pancakes were pretty good too.
(4)Alexa B.
Love coming to parkway! It is right around the corner from my office so I end up there at least once a week. Everyone who works there is super friendly and it makes going there more enjoyable. I recommend this place to everyone! The turtle cake is one of my favorites for desserts and the french dip sandwich is delish!!
(5)Kevin N.
The best pastrami sandwich I have ever had. It was good enough to come back the next day for another one. The fries only come in one size (Large) so make sure you're hungry.
(5)Roberto N.
Everything is good here. I had the Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes- very good. My friend had the beef brisket dinner; that has an unusual tomatoe-y based reddish gravy that was just okay. Wait until you see the dessert menu!!!! People talk about the pickle bar, but I kept looking for my favorite- banana peppers, to no avail. The wait goes by fast if you have to wait. This place is Pop U Lar. And, it's for a reason. Most of the stuff is comfort food, served in nice portions, quickly, for a reasonable price. Having eaten here three times since the review, I can say that it's honestly hard to go wrong with anything on the menu. And, for me, that's high praise indeed.....
(4)Anna M.
As close as it gets to an old fashioned NY deli in our area. The food is very good and portions are quite generous. It's very reliable for comfort food and more. I only wish their take out ordering was a bit more organized.
(4)Robert C.
1st thing that I noticed when walking in there was: There're old ppl everywhere! In a way, it reminds me of IHOP lol. This place can get very packed, so you guys might be waiting for awhile if you want to dine in. Hot Pastrami ($9). - 1/2 lb of pastrami. The pastrami's pretty dang good I must say. The seasoning's just right & not too salty. Hot Open Face Brisket ($8.75) - Sliced Brisket of beef on Rye Bread, topping with Gravy. The brisket isn't bad, however the gravy's the one that stole the spotlight. Matzoh Ball Soup ($5) - Chicken Stock with Chicken pieces, Onions, Celery, Carrots, Egg Noodles & Matzoh Balls. Not bad, however kinda overrated. Overall: Probably one of the best deli joint on the area. However, I still think it's overrated since they don't have many good competitors around.
(3)Bonnie D.
I seriously don't know why this place has so many positive reviews. I really wanted to like it because it is so close to my house. I have been several times & tried many different things but I just don't get it! Most of the things I have tried are not bad, but definitely not worth going back for. The Bad: **"Hash Browns" don't let the name fool you -they look & taste exactly like raw, shredded potatoes. Maybe they were rushed that day & didn't have time to put them on the grill (?) **Prime Rib Special (mostly fat) **Beef Stroganoff - this was not actually bad, just very blah & tasteless. Not worth the $12. The Good: **Onion Rings **Macaroni & Cheese (if you get it before it has been sitting in the steam table too long & turns to mush) **Applesauce **Carrot Cake (not cheap-over $7.00 a slice, but good) Everything else I have tried seems to be mediocre. (The Steak & Cheese, the Knish, the Chili, the Soups)

The Parkway Deli & Restaurant is a charming, throw-back Bethesda institution. In a region that is notoriously bereft of authentic and delicious jewish deli fare, the Parkway is one of handful of places that serves up decent corn beef and pastrami. If judged purely on the food, the Parkway is more accurately a 3 or 3.5 star destination, however when you factor in the ambiance (the pickle bar, the old school array of cakes and pastries that bring back old memories from my childhood), it is a fun destination that earns that extra star. Full disclosure though, if you did not grow up in a household of New York Jews, with all the accompanying foods and memories, the lack of nostalgia (which I'm certain is an airbrush on my experience) may lead to a different experience than mine. My lovely shiksa girlfriend also enjoys the deli fare here, so who knows!
(4)Annie O.
The food was excellent and the prices very good. I am on the road approx 240 days a year and eat out often. Always looking for good food, this was far above most restaurants. Our waitress kept showing us others orders on her way to delivery and all of the dishes looked very appetizing. We shared lox and scrambled eggs and corned beef Reuben. YUM. Go out of your way to visit this place! Ask for Mary Anne.
(5)Sabra R.
Really good deli food! We were recently in NYC and stopped at a deli on Broadway for a reuben. The sandwich we got was bland, obnoxiously big and damn near $30!! for a SANDWICH! UGH! That makes Parkway even better. The sandwiches are filling but in a normal way. The meat is tender and flavorful (I had turkey pastrami, she had corned beef and we loved both), the bread is lightly buttered and toasted and the dressing is perfect (thousand island, rather than the mustard we got in new york). And the best part was that it was around 11 bucks. Score! Great sandwiches and beverages, free pickle bar, breakfast/brunch, lunch and dinner. Yum!!
(4)Blsc R.
I went here for the first time last night. Not fancy but nice which was what we were looking for. Reminded me of Woodside Deli from a menu perspective but nicer inside. A lot of options and the food was very good and huge portions. Staff was attentive and we will be back for sure. I went for the hot turkey while husband did beef stroganoff and we each had a drink and dessert. Total bill was less than $35.
(5)Nikkia G.
Love this place! It IS the best place for cheap eats in SS, especially breakfast. We all know Tasty diner sucks, so I was happy to find this little gem to order pancakes or french toast from! Whether its take out or dine in I love the food here. The service is good and speedy so no complaints here. Did I mention the little market like set up they have?? So say you want a sandwich (they come with like an inch worth of meat- seriously), a steak salad or some kind of eats right, there's a selection of wine and beer for you to chose from. Good selection too- sorted by what country the wine comes from. Plus there's ice cream, meat by the pound, a hot buffet AND a ton of desserts. This is the best little in SS as far as I'm concerned.

I really wanted to be in the mood for Matzo Ball Soup....but it was 95 degrees out. Ugh. I will have to wait till Fall. Pickle bar: the tomatillos and the beets were my favorite. And I HATE beets. But I ate the heck out of those beets!! I ordered the Nova omelette and grapefruit juice. For about $10 I got a huge delicious omelet to that was not too salty (lots of places make it too salty) hashbrowns, an everything bagel, and ruby red grapefruit juice. It was a terrific value and the waitress was so friendly. The decor is rather blue but is so much prettier than a diner. I can't wait to come back to try their rueben and about 10 other things I was salivating over on the menu.
(4)Chelai J.
I used to live up the street. We would go for lunch and breakfast mainly. Dinner is pretty good but I really went when I wanted sandwich. I compare their Reuben's to everyone else's. The best hands down. I love breakfast, too. Its first come, first served so roll with it. And the matzoh balls are HUGE. Chocolate dipped macaroons are good too.
(4)Jess G.
Parkway is known for its maztoh ball soup, which I know my Jewish boyfriend loves when he is sick! The front of Parkway is a market, where they sell fresh bread (including challah), a limited amount of non-perishable goods, wine, ice cream (including local brands), and hot foods to order. The back is the restaurant, which can have quite a wait on weekends. When we got there around 1:30 on a recent Sunday, we waited in line (no putting your name down on a list here) for about 20 minutes. Luckily they do have it down to a science so the line moves quickly. We got there toward the end of the brunch rush, because the specials ended at 2. You can still order breakfast all day though if you want. We chose lunch because we were both getting over colds and wanted some of that matzoh ball soup -- I have to say, it's not cheap. At all. I was a little shocked with the $5.65 charge for a cup of soup. Unfortunately, I was also disappointed by the soup :( I really wanted to like it, but I guess I'm a traditionalist (in what admittedly is a new tradition for me, as I had never had matzoh ball soup until 4 years ago), because I didn't like the addition of noodles to the soup. I'd prefer more broth and just matzoh balls; however, the soup was still good, and my boyfriend still devoured all of his! We both got sandwiches -- a BLT for me and a french dip for my boyfriend. The BLT on whole wheat bread was very good - it didn't come with any sides, but that was fine with me. The bacon (which obviously makes the BLT) was great and there was a lot of it, so I ended up taking 1/2 of the sandwich to go. My boyfriend did the same with his french dip, which came with fries also. He seemed to like it, especially with the au jus. We also took advantage of the free pickle/condiment bar -- I got two different kinds of pickles, which were fun to try, and my boyfriend got some of the other options, like a carrot salad. Parkway is a staple for the area - it's packed because of word-of-mouth and long family traditions of going there. It is pricier than I expected, but that's probably just because it can be. People keep coming back! The food is consistently good, and people know what they like. They have traditional Jewish staples, but also a variety of other sandwich and meal options, as well as a full breakfast menu (kind of like a diner). If you want a laid-back, good and reliable meal, try Parkway.

I don't believe this is a 4 star place. Even my two stars are pushing it. A work peer and I needed to go over an audit we were doing this week, and since she lives in Maryland and I live in VIrginia, I decided to be nice and be the one to drive farther to meet. I know, I'm a saint. It's not entirely clear when you walk in that a restaurant exists, but thanks to Yelp, I figured there might actually be one. As it was a weekend, we stood in line up against the wall, trying to avoid getting run over by servers and/or folks who have exploding bladders. Neither paid us any mind. We were seated at a tiny table next to 8,000,000 other tiny tables...which means this is NOT a place to bring work. It's not really even a place to bring conversation since eavesdropping is the norm, not the exception. Although some egg dishes looked good, I opted for the pumpkin pancakes. I would imagine that these pancakes were made from the innards of the non-existent Great Pumpkin since I didn't taste pumpkin. Or even pumpkin spice, really. I think my peer was fine with her sandwich, although it was quite a serving. Our server, who I will call Lurch, was rude. I'm sorry if I asked for more cream, or the bacon that I actually ordered, but I can't function without both. Lurch showed up to take our order, drop off our food, and drop off our check. We rarely saw him in between, and he did not check to see if things are okay. The only highlight was that the food was lightning fast. Suggestions- During the warm weather, make the waiting area outside. Have a better system like a sign up sheet. Hire people who will serve you and not be dickheads about it. Create more space in the restaurant. I haven't sat on anyone's lap in years and I don't like feeling like doing it now. I won't be coming back and it's unlikely I would recommend this place.

I am highly pleased with everything I ordered from Parkway. I have lived in the downtown Silver Spring area for 15+ years and this was my first time eating from here. I ordered the Maztoh ball soup to help with a cold I had. It was AMAZING!!! I got the quart for a less than $7 and could not help but to finish it. I just could not put it down. I am Caribbean so I always look for bold flavor and seasoning and have not found many places that attract to my palate without me modifying the food in some way. Parkway is a winner. Others I was with also ordered the Chicken Club sandwich, Steak and Cheese, and French toast on brioche. These selections were good as well. I tasted a bit of each just to see if they could master things other than soup and they did. I will most definitely be eating at this establishment again.

Not bad at all...looks like it needs some update to the furniture, lighting, walls, but overall clean and very busy. This place is always busy! I had a burger and fries and nothing spectacular, but I hear the matzo soup is pretty good -- will have to try that next time!

Best deli in the area! The pickle bar alone is worth the trip! The "worst" thing about this restaurant is the enormous selection on the menu and having to choose just one of the hundreds of delicious items to eat! If you are looking for an authentic New York deli, this is the place!
(5)Selwyn B.
Total garbage! I ordered twin sandwiches (corned beef & Pastrami). The Pastrami was filled with fat & not edible, the waitress exchanged it for a second corned beef. This was flat and tasteless. She took one look & agreed with me as it even looked unappetizing. We just got the bill & left. This is the second time I received "fat" sandwiches from this restaurant. No more!

Came here for brunch on Saturday with my boyfriend. We were surprised by the line (about 6 parties ahead of us -- took us about 25 min to be seated). This place markets the fact that they have the best matzah ball soup and compares itself to a NY establishment. While in line, my boyfriend was starving so he ordered a small matzah ball soup to go and started eating it in the line. I thought it was just okay (first time I've had matzah ball soup) but he seemed to enjoy it. While in line, I also noticed the pop-up artwork of scenes in NY which I thought was cute. The menu was pretty extensive. I had trouble deciding what to order. I opted for the 3 eggs (fried, over medium) with trout, hash browns, and a side of corn beef hash. My boyfriend ordered the hash brown omelette and the potato fritters. My dish was just okay (not sure why I ordered trout!). The corn beef hash wasn't very good, there were huge chunks of potato in it. The free pickle bar had a lot to choose from but we only tried a few things. Overall the place was very much like a diner. Lots of options, but nothing that really stood out. Probably would only come again if friends wanted to.

stopped by here for lunch because i was in the area. thanks for the heads up yelp! got the Corned Beef & Pastrami Ruben lunch special ($9.25 without tax), which came with a pickle. got it to go since i had to go back to work namean. the place has a back area for seating. but i was just up front. they serve beers here for all you peoples in MD. they also had a bunch of desserts, which i did not partake in (watching my svelte figure). they had deli meats, some fish, meat, etc. got the sammich after a couple of minutes but i had to eat it back at the office which was about 20 minutes away. it was still warm when i took a bite into it so its all good. meat was juicy and real flavorful. bread was toasted just about right with butter. all in all a good meal. minor beef with the place was the price. for that price, i was hoping to get more =(. it definitely wasnt small, but it could get bigger fo sho.

When I walked in- I was little put off by the decor. Once our food arrived, I saw why so many people were packed into this place. The food was great!! Service was also very fast and friendly. This is great low-key spot to have brunch or lunch with family or friends. The menu is well priced and my huge breakfast was only $10 before the tip.

If only I knew this place existed sooner. Y U M. Upon entering Parkway Deli & Restaurant, I spied booze (wine and beer) and desserts (cakes, cheesecakes, pies, and pastries). Ummmm did I just step into heaven?! After looking around some more, we made our way to the back of the restaurant and found the dining area. On a Friday night, this place was packed. Luckily we were able to score the last booth available. Hooray! So many options and they all sound so tasty. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! I finally decided on the grilled chicken club sandwich (grilled chicken, canadian bacon, cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes, on a twist roll w/o the honey mustard) with fries all for $8.35. This Parkway speciality had me at grilled chicken and canadian bacon. Hello! While waiting for our sandwiches, we noticed people going up to a mini bar, so I decided to check it out. Pickles galore. Although I'm not a pickle fan, I did grab a bowl and decided to put some carrot salad and pickled tomatoes in it. Not bad. Here comes my speciality. It was just as delicious as the menu described it to be! Tender, juicy, and flavorful chicken. The cheese was melted nicely. Not so thick canadian bacon that took this chicken club to another level. A tasty twist roll that was soft and melted in your mouth. MmMmMm. So good that I'm surprised I didn't gobble it all down. They are quite generous with their portions, so after eating half of the sandwich, I was quite satisfied. Let me tell you, this sandwich still tastes great the next day for lunch! The fries were also good. Loved the fact that they were crispy, skinny fries. yelp.com/biz_photos/S-Qk… I also took a bite of the Delight (pastrami, muenster cheese, coleslaw, russian dressing on grilled pumpernickel bread-$9.35). Pretty good, but I have to say, I definitely made the better choice! I couldn't resist ordering an eclair ($2.95). to go. This pastry was huge! Stuffed with creamy custard goodness and had the right amount of chocolate on top. Yum! yelp.com/biz_photos/S-Qk… Service was okay. Our waiter was somewhat attentive, but his mind seemed to be elsewhere. I could tell he was ready to head home and begin his weekend. this place has Woodside deli beat on sandwiches, that's for sure. But in terms of customer service, I'd have to say that Woodside deli has a friendlier and more inviting environment.

O-M-G. For months my brother has been raving about this place and I finally got to check it out. Parkway Deli & Restaurant is located right off of Grubb Rd. in a small strip mall. We went to grab lunch on a Saturday and it was packed. I decided to order an onion bagel with cream cheese and lox. When I opened my container, I was surprised to find salad, toast bagel sliced in half with a nice slab of cream cheese and tons of loxs. As a sushi lover--I'm not typically a fan of salmon but the combination with the bagel was absolutely DELICIOUS. I already want another one. I definitely will be going back to try other items on the menu. Update 4/8: It's been 3 days...I'm still craving another loxes and bagel...I'd also like to try the matzo ball soup.

Been here twice now. It's hit or miss. The breakfast food is great. But on our second visit, the pastrami sandwich was disappintingly small, and the ruben was not served hot. The service the first time was excellent. The second time, the young woman brought me the wrong sandwich (missing one topping), then (a minute later, after I'd handled it but not eaten any) came back to retrieve it! I hope she didn't serve it to someone else. She then failed to refill coffee or water at all. I tipped 20% anyway, but after we'd paid and were just enjoying what little coffee we had, she still kept swooping by to stare at us to get out of there--even though we'd been there barely an hour. If I'd known she'd do that, I would've made the tip commensurate with her service (15% on the dot). I think Parkway is somewhat overrated. If you go, hope that you get one of the older waitstaff.
(3)Allison K.
I'd bet that the food isn't the only reason why the locals and tourists alike give this place so much love. Don't get me wrong, the food is great. I ordered the matzo ball soup and finished it in less than 5 minutes; it was hearty with a rich flavor and had perfectly cooked vegetables. We got brunch and the hash browns were on point, granola french toast was tasty and the eggs were fine. I also got up twice to get some pickled beets from the pickle bar (so simple but so good)! Aside from the food, however, I think the atmosphere, the slightly eclectic but very interesting art that you stare at while waiting on the second line, and the overall feeling that the restaurant is local favorite make this place the classic definition of a neighborhood joint, serving real comfort food by real people. It reminds me of my favorite diner in New York, it reminds me of home. Lovely restaurant that is worth waiting on line for!

There is not a single thing about this place that is wrong. They have perfected the art of being what they are. Xoxo, dont ever change

I would like to write a 5-star ode to the french fries at Parkway Deli. Let me be clear, I wouldn't give the rest of Parkway 5 stars - I've had way over-salted omelets, their veggie burger is just gross, and a few other mediocrities - but the fries, oh my lord. If you're a fries person, you will know what a good french fry tastes like and - once you've had the best one ever - you'll know that too. Parkway Deli has the best french fries ever. They are slender, perfectly crispy, and have these crunchies all over that must just be pieces of batter or something that sticks to them but that adds so much deliciousness, it's just amazing. So my recommendation is - having cheesecake? Add a side of fries. Eggs benedict? They also need some fries. A shake? You better be having fries with that. Oh yes, and speaking of, their shakes are also second to none. But this is an ode to the Parkway french fry let's not forget.
(5)Sabrina B.
Been eating here for years. Food is consistently very good. Only to be told today that hash browns are like French toast waffles and pancakes and are not available mid day. Say what? Left that out of the list on the menu.

I live in Northern Virginia and had been craving good Jewish deli for my birthday today. My daughter lives in Bethesda and found this place on yelp. The service was fantastic, the food plentiful and delicious, the sour tomato and pickle bar soooooo good and all you can eat!!! The booths are extra large and was exactly what I miss being from NJ!!! I had lean hot pastrami and chopped liver on pumpernickel bread while my daughter had chopped liver and brisket. My husband feasted on hot pastrami and corned beef with a side of huge onion rings!!!! This place has great prices, a fantastic menu and just felt right!!!! I will be back for sure!!!! Thank you!!!! You have a customer for life!!
(5)Alexandra K.
I loved this place. It reminded me of the Stage Deli in Detroit, or the Pomperdale Deli in Fort Lauderdale. Old school items, and part nice dining area, part take-out deli. I ordered sunnyside up eggs with a side of spinach and fresh fruit. Added bonus? Meatless matzo ball soup. Score!
(5)James R.
I live just down the road from this great deli. I haven't been to a better deli anywhere in the D.C. area. Parkway's food is fresh and quality. If you eat in, you can have at the pickle bar. The service here is outstanding. You'll never feel like you are being ignored. Be careful though, if you come on a weekend during busy times, the wait and crowded atmosphere may not appeal to some. If you like classic Jewish deli food, this is the place for you. The corned beef reuben is outstanding; tender corned beef, perfectly grilled rye bread, and just enough Russian dressing and sauerkraut to make ones mouth tingle. Their menu offers variety that can satisfy any craving too. The taco salad is always bursting with fresh avocado and tomato. Basically, you can't go wrong with any decision you make once you venture into this fine establishment. Even more, they sell beer and wine. This is unheard of in Montgomery County, and most likely a grandfathered in privilege.
(5)Bree P.
Great place for families! Gets busy on weekends - try going early in the a.m. to avoid the rush. Completely worth waiting if you must. Fantastic breakfasts - the best french toast and the best hash browns anywhere. They cook the bacon perfectly - crisp but not overcooked. For lunch or dinner, try the barbecue brisket sandwich. Melts in your mouth! Prices have risen pretty sharply - my last visit with my son and a friend was almost $40 for breakfast. So it's not an all-the-time thing anymore, but a sometimes-thing.

I've lived in the NoVa area for about 20 years. Their is not one Deli in the NoVa/MD/DC area that comes close to the quality food served here. Corned beef, Brisket, Pastrami all super quality and lean. It has everything and very generous portions...Lox, Latkes, the list goes on. Ok, it probably took me 19 years to find this place and only because another couple drove us over from NoVa. The desserts are fantastic....free complimentary pickle bar. "It's the best Jerry, the best" This review was plain and simple honest, I wrote it from the heart...The Truth.

Crab cake take out = awesome!!
(5)Candra L.
I went to the this Deli store after I heard its reputation. However, so far I have not been impressed by their food nor their service. It just takes long to get any food but does not taste any particularly better. Take out is even worse. I would not recommend this store to others.

PICK-LE BAR! PICK-LE BAR! PICK-LE BAR! (chant) Want to come back for the Matzo ball soup, but we came for breakfast our first time and i loved my hashbrowns, but I think i would prefer the scrambled eggs to the omelet because i don't like it when it's a sheet of egg basically wrapping around the stuffing... I prefer it when the omelet is all good together and gooey with the spinach and tomaotes and cheese, you know?
(4)Taylor F.
I've been here a few times. I personally think the corned beef king has the best of its kind around. I will say that this place has an excellent corned beef and it's one of the biggest around. I heard its a half pound of meat! one night I dined in and tried a special. ordered a spicy Reuben. had the usual toppings but had a very spicy ghost pepper cheese. I was surprised and pleased with the heat from the cheese and it was much hotter than pepper jack. would order that again. this has been a mainstay for decades and it is worth a try.
(4)Izzat A.
Went here for breakfast with some friends. Wife and I got the hash brown omelet which was pretty decent. My other friend hated what he got so the menu could be hit or miss. The place was packed so it's got to be doing something right. Prices were fair. Would prolly come back.
(3)Paul M.
Astonishing and amazing for two reasons: 1. This place is two miles from my front door of the last 5.5 years and I only got to it about a week ago. 2. It is a truly phenomenal and authentic Jewish NY deli - a whole section of Jewish specialities including kippers and 3 other different types of smoked fish. Old school service, jam packed on weekend mornings, massive portions and a long long menu. Tremendous.
(5)Mike P.
We got here at approx noon on Sunday, the line was so long they had to break it into 2 different lines, one in the front and one in the back. I was surprised how quickly the like moved. We were seated in about 15 minutes there had to be 30 people ahead of us. They have a pickle bar, i tried a few, some I liked some not so much. For breakfast i had the hand sliced nova lox and onion omelet, my other friends had the brie cheese and bacon omlete and one had the pumpkin pan cakes. All reported delicious. Mine can with a bagel and more cream cheese than i could use. I use to work in New York so i know this is as close to a New York deli as your going to find here. Enjoy
(4)Marc F.
All you can eat pickle bar with half done pickles AND rare roast beef with coleslaw and Russian dressing on rye... really do I need to say more? This place rocks! Too bad everyone else knows it too. The staff are pretty good at moving people along: enjoy your food but don't linger too long because others are waiting. I've had a lot on the menu, and all of it is quite good. Parkway is at the top of my list... and I've eaten at the best of 'em in Philly and NYC.
(5)Sara A.
We just moved to the area and when we woke up this morning we discovered we had no coffee, no eggs, no nothing. So, we set off in search of breakfast and found parkway. Service was prompt and attentive without being pushy, food was delish. I had the nova and onion scramble which was perfect their bagels are just like they are at home in N.Y.. My husband had scrambled eggs and applesauce which was homemade- chunky and not overly sweet. My one problem is that there aren't good options for very little kids, my toddler daughter ended up having a side of toast and a fruit cup. I wish they had the option for a single egg.
(4)Lillian C.
I love this place; I get so indecisive about their menu because its huge and most things I've ordered are really good. I honestly think they make the best cheeseburgers I've had in this area (aside from homemade) and I really love their matzo ball soup. They also have generous portions. Things I don't like include the fried chicken and the grilled chicken breast. the fried chicken just tastes funny (tastes like they put sugar in the batter) and the grilled chicken breast from the dinner entree menu was on the boring side. The service has always been very good here. :)
(5)Sa'lome H.
Great!!
(3)Chris Z.
One word... pastrami and that's all you really need to know. If this place only sold Rueben sandwiches they would be just as successful as they are right now. That's how good their pastrami is... hands down the best Rueben sandwich I've had in the DC area. The only reason why they got four out of five stars is because they are at a point where they need to renovate their restaurant.
(4)Kathleen L.
We were traveling through DC to Philly and were desperate for breakfast. We checked Yelp, saw the reviews for Parkside Deli and Restaurant, and immediately got off 495. So glad we did. We were seated immediately and quickly served. The food was excellent! Homemade corned beef hash and French Toast to die for. Their menu is varied; the market seems to have everything; and the takeout looks delicious. Wish we could try every dish. Might just plan our return trip to stop for lunch. Don't let the humble store front discourage you. This place is gold. Thanks again Yelp.
(5)Nicole R.
Matzoh Ball soup = YUM YUM YUM Also love the dark chocolate cake. I just discovered this place and can't wait to try some other menu selections. What a treasure in Montgomery County. Definitely reminds me of a NYC deli, pho sho. Will update once I've experienced more of what they have to offer.
(5)Lela T.
I got the BLT but maybe I should've gone another route. It was just okay. Pickle bar = awesome selection of pickled items! What was that, pickled red cabbage? I really should've taken some to go. French fries were tasty as well however they are more of the "extra crispy" variety than I normally like. I ALSO got food to go. Those little leaf shaped pink cookies with chocolate in the middle were delicious and I got liver & onions and a cabbage roll to go. The liver & onions with the peppers and bacon on top were delicious! It's hard to find liver around here nowadays. Maybe a little too much bacon for me however. The cabbage roll appetizer is only 1 roll (I asked and he said it was 2) but no matter, it was still good. A little dry but I suspect that it's because the carry out containers are that thick cardboard rather than styrofoam and some of the juice was drained out. The food is DEFINITELY affordable but I think I should've gone with some better choices. Maybe the half pound brisket sandwich next time. It's a lot to take in so I'm sure if I pick the items that they are probably best known for, I'll give a 4 star next time!
(3)SA F.
Reuben was out of this world. I can't stop thinking about its yumminess & I want to go back (daily) for another. The fear of major weight gain keeps me from going there every day.
(5)Steven A.
Best deli in the DMV. The Monterrey Chicken Panini is the best sandwich I've ever had period. Accompanied with those golden crispy fries, and that ranch dressing... forget about it. Incredible breakfast as well. If you're a breakfast nut like myself, go for the Spinach, meat+cheese omelette with tomato and toasted bagel... **turns car on** Goodbye.
(5)Niana K.
I'll keep this short & sweet: VERY welcoming & attentive waitstaff EXCELLENT Matzoh Ball soup!! A-MAZING super tender Grilled turkey oozing with melted brie paired with their perfect cranberry sauce! AWESOME Eggplant fries (I replaced my regular fries w/ these) BEST BEETS EVER @ Pickle bar!! Parents ordered their Dinner specials: Beef Stroganoff w/ 1 side & Pub Battered Haddock w/ 2 sides. We could barely breathe after dinner...left no room for dessert. My mom also just asked if we could go again, which NEVER EVER happens unless we're talkin about Continental Pizza down Connecticut Ave. I'm actually very very surprised...that shows a lot about this place! Conclusion: Definitely my new favorite deli! Not only for their excellent food, but also b/c the people there are just so darn nice. They've definitely got the total package for sure. Oh, and you can pick up some beer/wine in their deli area. Beat the crowd and get their early for parking. 5:45pm was good for me. Be back soon!
(4)Nicole W.
My favorite place to go after a long day at work. This place is so comforting! Matzo ball soup is the best I've had in a long time. I also like the chicken and blue cheese salad. The chicken is char-boiled to perfection, and I like the big chunks of avocado and tomato. Service is always friendly, and the pickle bar will be fully stocked. Make sure to grab some sliced deli meat or cheese on your way out.
(5)Marcia G.
I heard so much about this place and when I was in the area I had to try it. There was a line to get in. I really enjoyed the good and the customer service! Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable! I will definitely go back!
(5)Edson C.
the Parkway Deli, used to be one of our favorite places for the last 12 years, food is so good and plenty, prices are good, one of my favorites was the Nova Appetizer and the Tuna Platter, sadly the new kitchen crew can NEVER get right,. Their fried chicken is way better than the greasy chicken at chain stores, if you are lucky enough for them to get your order right. Is so bad that they can even get an omelet right, I ordered the spinach omelet & when I got it home, it had NOTHING inside, it was just the plain egg, just an example of my failed orders, I haven't been back since February of 2014.
(3)Jared S.
Checked out Parkway after hearing there was a true Jewish deli in the area. Went on a Saturday morning and had to wait about 30-45 min in line but that was fine. Wide ranging menu to please everyone and an amazing pickle bar. Hash browns, omelet, and knish were delicious. As others have mentioned, service does slow down on the weekends, but the food is well worth it!
(4)Rachel G.
Deliciousness! So glad to have found this place. I ordered the lox, latkes and eggs dish and was not disappointed. The dish came with a bagel and schmear, too! Such a memorable meal, definitely worth the wait.
(5)Tara L.
I love me a good deli. Go ahead - call me a cold cut slore, I don't care. I just know that I would have never discovered this place without Yelp. Tucked away off Grubb Rd, most people would probably never be aware of this deli unless you lived directly in the surrounding, residential neighborhood. I can only describe this personal discovery to my Legend of Zelda playing days: It was like blowing up a wall, to find a room with some extra life hearts for me. The first thing I noticed upon entry was all of the booze. Lots of wine, wine coolers and beer neatly stocked. Then I got off my phone to investigate how things really worked around here, because I wasn't in the mood to read the Yelp reviews play by play of what to do once you get here. So, too bad for me if there was a secret code or something that I could have whispered to someone to get me a free cannoli. I didn't see any chalky menu boards posted, so I ventured back to find a small, dining room area. I took a look at the menu and decided to order my food to go. The first lunch special that caught my eye was the Southwestern Crab and Avocado sandwich, served on an English muffin. While I didn't immediately fancy the English muffin part of the sandwich, I love crab and avocado, so I was sold. I placed my order with the guy at the counter who was very playful and chatty with me and in less than 10 minutes my food was ready. As I waited, I oggled their amazing selection of fresh baked goods: massive cakes, cookies, cannolis, pastries...I now know where I'm going next time I'm having a craving for sweets. As for the actual food, the crab cake on the sandwich was insanely huge. Maybe even a little disturbingly large, as it muffin topped over the edges of...well, my muffin. Lots of filler was used and the coloring was a bit yellow, but those things never stop me. It was also loaded with pepper jack cheese which is usually a really good thing, but it made the sandwich a pretty heavy meal. I barely touched the fries because this was so filling. The fries were cold anyway. Minor bummers aside, I will definitely come back. Great service, great variety and fresh, no frills comfort food.
(4)Cat S.
As you enter this deli/restaurant you are either greeted by a full house or by fresh made deli food and desserts. The line that usually loops around the place is very worth it for the delicious food. The staff are amazing and so kind, as well as the owners. In the restaurant there is an open vege bar, and the selection includes different things pickled and some for the more curious and adventurous eaters. I love their sweet mashed potatoes, it is always hot and taste fresh and homemade! The wait for food is never too long where it makes you anxious, and it is always hot! Their burgers are fresh and well put together. Their breakfast items are all yummy, especially their pancakes. The fries are damn delicious as well. I would forever go back for their corned beef sandwich on sourdough.. so much layers of meat so perfectly compacted into every delectable bite! Must visit if you're in the silver spring area!
(5)Ama L.
Cornbeef and cheese on a roll !!! Goodness pure joy!!!!! The chocolate desert and baked goods taste yummy . Fantastic selection of spirits as well
(5)Susana T.
Adore the deli. It's a two-minute walk from my house and is a go-to for all our quick needs. In the mood for beer? Check. Need a sugar cookie or a slice of their huge red velvet cake? Check, check. Need a quick party platter for the 12 people showing up at your apartment two days hence? Another nice check. Restaurant-wise, though, it's pretty darn awesome. My favorites are the matzoh ball soup, the turkey burger, French toast and the Rio Grande burger. The husband loves the pickle bar. Not a place to go to if you really want to watch what you eat, but hey--can't be good 100% of the time, right? That's why I don't dine here often, but love it each time I do. Friendly staff, too. While the cashiers don't know us by name, they certainly know us by sight (and probably beer preference) and are always pleasant and helpful. Waitstaff is great for the most part. Finally, the coffee is a lifesaver when I'm out at home. Probably the most important thing on a Saturday morning when I'm feeling grumpy.
(5)L L.
To all of you who complain about long lines at Parkway: There are lines for a reason! The reason is value. You get yummy comfort food at a reasonable price. Parkway is a place that you can visit any time of day with your children or your grandmother. I am thankful that there is still a place like Parkway that serves something for everyone - except maybe a vegan. ;-)
(5)Susan L.
Awesome breakfast. Waitress came to the table with the pot of coffee and a mug along with the menu. Brilliant. Then didn't hassle me when I lingered after the meal and read the paper. Oh, and the bagel was phenomenal.
(5)Carolina P.
really nice. the food is great, good portions and although being crowded the food was served quickly. Jus somewhat noisy, but fun. an cheap too.

I have been coming to Parkway since I was in fetu. This place is a very special, family friendly restaurant. I have yet to find a deli restaurant in NYC that matches up to Parkway - which sound pretty crazy, I know. Every time I am home I make sure to make a stop here, even if it's just for take out. Their pickle bar is amazing. If you have impatient kids, or are impatient yourself, nothing takes the "hangry" edge off like a half-sour parkway pickle. There's a whole host of pickled goodness in that bar. Just thinking about it makes me want to jump on a train home right now. Their chopped liver is to die for. Their breakfast - from the crispy hash browns to the lox are top notch. The Matzoh ball soup is also a standby. The staff and service are true professionals who have been doing what they do for years and they really take the time to get to know their regulars. Of all the restaurants in the DC area, I certainly miss Parkway the most.

Order take out from home and go pick it up on the weekends. The line is long. Great smoked whitefish salad.
(4)Anna H.
Not the best version of a Jewish New York style deli I have ever been to--the Matzoh balls are heavy BUT great lox, pastrami, pickle bar AND...they sell wine! Need I say more?

Basically, in short - GO HERE. The Parkway is SOOOO good!! The best deli in the DC area, hands down! The Parkway's matzo ball soup is the best I've ever had. I never told my poor grandmother that before she died, because it probably would have killed her if I had, but it's the truth. They absolutely know how to make it the RIGHT way - by using schmaltz (chicken fat). Now that's old school (in the best possible way)! If you're sick, this soup will cure you. If you're sad, this soup will put a smile on your face. If you're broke - well, scrounge up some money for this soup, stop on by and forget your troubles. Yes, it's really that good! The Parkway has other great stuff, too, but basically I always get the soup. A cup will fill you up, a bowl will mean leftovers to take home (hells yeah). Wash it down with a nice Dr. Brown's Diet Cream soda - paradise. The latkes are really good here - nice and crisp and not too oily, and you can get both sour cream and apple sauce on the side, which I love. The corned beef, kosher dog and kasha and bowties are all good bets, too. But have I mentioned the soup?
(5)Sk C.
Great little hidden gem. They have a nice breakfast menu that runs all day on weekends and they have a nice selection of beers/cider. I see the pastries but haven't tried it yet. Everyone is super friendly there.

One of my volunteer activities was to share my lunch with this adorable 80 year old lady in my neighborhood. After much research, I settled on picking up a sandwich from Parkway and the place totally delivered! Her ham and cheese sandwich was "the best she ever had", she said :) and my tomato moz sammy was pretty darn good too! The place gets pretty busy during lunch and there was a bit of a wait to get my sandwiches. But they made it from scratch and everything from the bread and the meat to the pesto in my sandwich tasted super fresh. I think I am going back pretty soon! Hey Parkway Deli - you got yourself an adorable 85 year old fan!!

Delicious food that is consistent. Breakfast is fantastic. Decent standard bagels and I think the schmear is made onsite or locally. The matzoh ball soup and the reuben is very good. I have two complaints. First, the coffee sucks. I mean it really really sucks. It tastes worse than coffee from a greasy spoon and maybe even worse that coffee from a fast food place. I don't get it. The beans that they sell are okay but something happens between beans and liquid that ruins it. Every single person that I have met that loves this place hates their coffee. If it had a decent cup of coffee I would go there more often. If their coffee was up to standard I would give them a 4/5. Second, I wish they had some sort of special for soups and sandwiches. If I want a small cup of matzoh ball soup and a reuben I have to pay $15. That is too much for what you get. If they had a $10 special for a soup and sandwich I would be there daily for lunch and this review would be at a 5/5.

One of my favorites for breakfast in the area. I love the Crab Eggs Benedict when they have it available. This restaurant has the NYC diner type of feel in the back, and deli in the front. Nothing fancy, but the service has been good so far. I have to come back for lunch and try some of their sandwiches. 4 Stars!
(4)Emily S.
Seriously obsessed with this place! I usually go about two or three times a month! Definitely get the potato pancakes! You won't regret it.
(5)Haroun K.
I schlepped to get here, like a mega-schlep. These kinds of classic Jewish delis are an endangered species, and normally it's worth the schlep. The ambiance is just what you'd expect, very informal, fast paced, lots of comfy booths. The food was ok. The veggie matzo ball soup is a nice touch, although a little pricy for just a cup. I created a modified reuben sandwich. The ingredients were all fresh, however the bread was way too thin, which made the sandwich flimsy, and less filling. I'd pass on the onion rings. The pickle bar, which was one of the main reasons I came all the way over here, didn't quite live up to the hype. The sour/old dill pickles tasted like the kind you'd get out of any national brand jar at the supermarket, not a Jewish deli. Still, if you are in Silver Spring, you should probably stop by.
(3)Jillian J.
Over the past year, the quality of food has been hit or miss. I placed an order for pick up. I was looking forward to my latkes, lox, and eggs and when I got home, I see my meal was missing the lox. How can you forget the lox?! Very disappointed. Their desserts are to die for but not sure if that's enough to lure me back.

This is a serious no-nonsense NYC style deli, where the sandwiches are executed perfectly; packed with fresh meat and cheese in between a buttery toasted bun. The staff knows what they are doing and they are interested in getting you served and seated quickly. My dear cousin and I stayed in here nearly all day catching up-- despite the traffic this place brings in, we didn't feel rushed. They also serve beer and wine. And they have a really good pickle bar. Worth the drive; I got the Rueben of a lifetime! You can take a look at the picture and know that its delish! This place stays packed....if I were to be transported back to the 90's I'm pretty sure Elaine, Jerry, George, and Kramer would be a booth away cracking jokes.....going about the everyday business of life with a hearty sense of humor! Here an appetite won't go disappointed....
(5)Addy C.
Very popular Jewish deli -- esp. famous for their pickle bar. We ordered pick-up which apparently many others do too as there was a long line. Also a long line to get a table. Parking lot is usu. packed too ... so timing is critical. REUBEN GRILL - $9.25 The Yelp reviews were raving about the Reuben Grill so that's what I got. Very good but pricey for a sandwich - 8 oz corned beef (lots of meat!), Swiss cheese, Russian dressing and sauerkraut on grilled rye. Also came w/ a pickle. But doesn't come w/ any sides. I could only eat half of the Reuben -- my leftovers tasted just as good the next day :) EGGPLANT FRIES - $3.75 Another raved about dish. Portion was huge -- fries were pretty good but I wouldn't get it again. Would've been great if they served it w/ some kind of special sauce but alas, no sauce at all. My sister got the "Fried Chicken Dinner" which came w/ two sides. Sadly she didn't let me try it - probably b/c it was so good. She said she'd get it again. Not the corn on the cob though - very overcooked. Mac-n-cheese was good though. My brother-in-law got the "Beef Brisket" - he didn't offer his food either, haha. Personally I didn't think it looked very appetizing but he said it was pretty good. However he said he wouldn't get it again which is my true indicator whether the food was really good or not :) Desserts in the dessert case looked fantastic esp. the cannoli's and chocolate eclairs.
(3)Brad M.
Had the California BLT Panini and it was fantastic. Great service. Will eat here again when in town.
(5)Jesse F.
A very solid choice for a hearty meal. I had a sort of eggs benedict (except replace the canadian bacon with pastrami) and a side of hash browns. The pastrami was excellent - well spiced and hot. The shredded hash browns also had a very nice outer crispiness to them that brought out flavors. The eggs were ok, but a little over done; the english muffins the eggs and pastrami sat on were fine - but they became soggy and needed to be toasted for longer; the hollandaise sauce topping it all off was also ok, but it didn't really add much flavor wise. Even though they were very busy, the service was still excellent, and the waitress made sure my coffee never ran low. The ambience is perfectly nice, clean, and fairly inviting, but there's nothing that really makes it stand out. For transportation, it's too far from the metro to walk it, but there is a good amount of parking out front so you should be able to find a space.
(4)Jenny C.
I have been wanting to come here for a long time. I finally made it and boy was it worth going! Since I love all food I usually have a hard time deciding. My waitress, MaryAnne, was amazing. Somehow anticipating my every need and expertly directing me towards food heaven. I wish I hadn't waited so long to finally come here. My pastrami and corned beef ( I added cheese) had so much meat on it I had to take half home! I absolutely adored the pickle bar, especially the red kraut. My meal was so good I stopped at the carry out counter to take home dinner. The counter guy was awesome as well, even giving me a sample of the delicious Mac n cheese. Needless to say I took some of that home too. Can't wait till the BF gets home so we can grub! It's just calling my name from the fridge.
(5)Dana C.
Yum! We have never disliked anything we have eaten at this restaurant. They have a little store up front where you can grab baked goods and white fish salad to go (along with a little wine and maybe bagels). The restaurant has a free pickle bar. We love all of the Jewish fare. There is even interesting artwork for you to look at if you are waiting in line for a table (and you will likely be at some point especially if you visit on the weekend). - Don't worry, it is worth the wait. Also, the carrot cake is a real winner.
(5)Joshlen C.
Yummy!!! Had the best hot pastrami on rye (cole slaw, Swiss and Russian sauce) sandwich today! Tasted like my childhood favorite #19 sandwich from Langers in Los Angeles. My daughter ordered a chicken panini and she loved it. French fries are amazing!!!! So crispy and perfectly seasoned. Pickle bar was an added plus!!! I can't wait to go back again!
(5)Diane B.
I had forgotten how truly fabulous the food at this deli is! Matzoh ball, corned beef, borscht, cel-ray soda. Yum! Don't forget the pickle bar!!!
(5)Jessica H.
As soon as we walked in, we knew we had found a great place because it was packed and the line was super long! Silly us, we chose to come on a Sunday at lunch time. The line starts in the store front area and wraps along the coolers where it seems to end. Unfortunately, when you get to the front, you realize that there is another shorter line on the other side near the restaurant area. Not a very fun time when you have a 2 year old in tow, however we persevered! When we were finally seated, my husband made a bee-line to the pickle bar which he deemed "interesting". I assume he liked it, as he ate all the pickles he brought back. He had the Grilled Turkey and Brie sandwich which he liked a lot. I had the chicken salad king sandwich on pumpernickel. I really liked the simplicity of the chicken salad. It didn't have a lot of "stuff" in it, just mayo, egg, celery, and onion. It was perfect. My 6 yr old daughter, being the hard-to-please little person that she is was not happy with her hot dog, because it was wrapped in bologna. I took off the offensive bologna, but apparently it had tainted the hot dog and she wouldn't eat it . :( My 2 year old was happy with his chocolate chip muffin and didn't speak the entire meal. Hallelujah! We Will be back, but at an off-time when the wait may no be so long and possibly without the picky 6 year old!
(4)Eve B.
My family and I absolutely LOVE Parkway :) my parents have been going there for 30+ years - deli in the back is worth the wait but takeout service is supreme as well! Customer service is impeccable and the neighborhood atmosphere is so nice. Highly recommended for all!
(5)Mallory S.
This place is the ultimate deli. NYC and Philly people living in the DC area- you'll feel right at home here. This place has all the classics and is the epitome of a traditional jewish deli.
(5)Minjeong L.
It was PERFECT. Delicious!!!! Also, service was polite. I will try panini for the next time Nice place
(5)Evan L.
Late lunch on a Saturday. The "dining room" Is compact, windowless, and LOUD. The service is efficient though not friendly. The matzoh ball soup was good and the pastrami Reuben passable though both were overpriced for the quality and portion.
(2)Racquel C.
Had breakfast here with friends. The breakfast was good - it wasn't amazing, but what blew me away was their Tres Leches cake - freaking unbelievable. I would return only for their Tres Leches cake. Their food is priced reasonably and very affordable. Quick and good customer service.
(3)Nick C.
The one, the only! Best in the 'burbs by far! Can't beat the bang for the buck, the quality grub, or the great staff! I go for carry-out, but beware the lunch-rush if you plan to dine-in; you may be waiting awhile (but that's just a testament to how great Parkway is!). I'm also a sucker for their weekly lunch specials which I highly recommend checking out on the reg. And the only reason I cut back on twice-a-week lunch runs is the fact I don't have the will-power not to eat the generous portion of french-fries that come with the specials (Offer options of sides that are a li'l heathier instead of "no substitutions" maybe?).
(5)Amy S.
We live very closeby and are so glad this deli is so convenient. Their breakfast is fantastic and we usually call in a pick-up order on Sundays because of the crowds. They also offer a good wine selection and fantastic desserts.
(5)ChopChop F.
Cakes are heavenly! Huge slices for reasonable price. Good selection of wines, including kosher options.
(5)Arun M.
The staff are friendly and approachable, but my pastrami with mustard on rye was a let down. The rye bread didn't hold up well to the mustard, and juices coming out of the pastrami and the pastrami was sliced too thin for my liking. Overall, I see potential in this place, and I wouldn't mind coming back for another try.

Since moving to Silver Spring, my girlfriend and I have had a difficult time finding that good local gem. Some restaurants have come close, but until we found Parkway Deli, we didn't have a go-to. I'm so happy we discovered this place. In the front is a normal deli and storefront, but in the back it opens up into a large restaurant. The dining room is clean, modern, and even has local art on the wall that is for sale. I can't recall seeing that in a restaurant before. Everything we have had on the menu is great. The fish and chips were made with a Corona batter, which, while not what you would get at an Irish Pub, made for a fresh take on this classic dish. The crab cakes were full, fresh, and savory, and were just as good as their club sandwiches or tuna melts (though they can go a little heavy on the cheese on the latter). My girlfriend prefers the au jus and potato pancakes, or, really, anything involving potatoes. Their breakfasts are also great, and the desserts are to die for. They do something I haven't seen before: twin sandwiches, where you get two small, different sandwiches, rather than one larger one. The next time we are in there I plan to try the tuna and chicken salad twin. They also have an oddity: a pickle bar. We tried it, and I remembered that I'm not much of a pickle person: I ran quickly for my ice tea to cleanse my palate. This place is always busy, which as the saying goes, means it's a great restaurant. In spite of being busy, the food has always come out quick for us, and has been fresh and hot. Their kitchen looks to be the veritable well-oiled machine, and the servers provide good service. This place is a gem, and is our new favorite spot in Silver Spring.
(5)Linda O.
I've had a couple of their sandwich plates for lunch; the sammies are good, but not extraordinary. The potato salad is not to my liking at all; the coleslaw is so-so. In fact, I was in disbelief at how little slaw I got for a $2.65 side order--perhaps 1/4th cup. The free pickle bar is a nice concept, but doesn't work for me. The offerings are just okay; frankly, I'd pay for a great pickle. All the various chicken soups are excellent. As for desserts, triple chocolate cake is right in there; but chocolate fudge cake has been under-baked. The place is always packed. I clearly see that this spot is well-loved. That's nice. The restaurant is not a large space and seating is quite tight (to the point of being uncomfortable). The pricing is not what I would consider a bargain, but competitive. Service is dependable. A deep clean would do wonders... Sorry, I cannot muster the great affection for this local institution that others have. The story behind this family-owned business is heart-warming--God bless 'em and their loyal customers.
(3)David T.
Delicious pastrami sandwich, no BS, no bells or whistles. Just straight up flavor and meat! With all these bigger restaurant businesses opening up in the area, I have mad respect for these little mom and pop shops doing their thing!
(4)David H.
Yummy corn beef and pastrami! Fantastic selection of deli sandwiches with great portions!
(5)Jann L.
I adore Parkway Deli. This impression is solely from their CARROT CAKE. A wonderfully moist cake that was delicious from top to bottom, with just the right amount of sweetness and an insanely consistent mix of nuts, carrots, raisins, and frosting with every bite. Similar to how you need to mix pie crust with pie filling for that perfect bite, a slice of cake will typically pose the same issues. None of that here. You don't have to deal with any potential forkfuls of mediocrity - each time you dig in, you will get the good stuff. Though the slices are massive, I have the utmost faith that you will finish it. But for all I gush, this is a solemn review. For I have never physically been to Parkway Deli... a gracious colleague hand delivered this slice of yums to me in NJ after raving about it for weeks!
(5)Paul B.
Parkway Deli is delicious. I really miss these east coast delis now that I live on the west coast. I went true east coast deli fashion the pastrami Reuben and a side of fries. The rye bread was deliciously toasted with a sandwich piled high with pastrami. Probably my favorite part about these delis is the amount of meat they're known for putting on their sandwiches. So good. A friend of ours got there early to get us seats; not sure if you need to or can make a reservation. The only thing I forgot about these places is the side of pickles that people typically start their meal off with. I will definitely be remembering that for next time. Love me some east coast deli pickles. :) I can't wait to go here again!
(4)Sara M.
I was recommended to try this place out when I was staying in Silver Spring area and I'm glad I did! As a rookie, I got a bit confused how to order there but one of cashiers there was very friendly and knew finger spelling which helped me a bit and guided me on how ordering there works. After my first time, I went back a couple more times! My first time I ordered Breakfast Quesadilla with hash brown as side order for carrying out and I was pleased with my first order! I wish hash brown was a bit more cooked and less greasy but it still tasted good! Turkey Burger with fries I had for dinner was also pretty darn good! I will be most definitely returning this place soon someday!
(4)Koral S.
5 stars just for the pancakes - both breakfast and potato. The breakfast ones tasted like yellow cake almost and were absolutely delicious. Overall, this place never disappoints. Everything from the breakfast to the sandwiches to the dinner options are great. The set up with the deli/take out in the front and restaurant in the back is charming. I've taken dessert to go from the counter and am always happy! This place reminds me of a true NY diner.
(5)Natalie F.
This place has the BEST and most reasonably priced food in the area! I get take out from here all the time and they are always super friendly and fast with the order and accurate! Kudos to the staff here because they seem to always be busy but they always get my order right! I am addicted to the eggplant fries and the chicken salad. I can't eat sugar unfortunately but whenever I come here I take my time making love to the desert counter with my eyes. They also sell a fabulous variety of drinks and wine. Location is kind of hidden with free parking.
(5)Paola G.
Seriously delicious food here. Love their salads, sandwiches, paninis, hot food, wine selections and their desserts are amazing. The smoothies taste like milk shakes but are actually made with yogurt. At my job we always order from here, its just great all around.
(5)Joshua G.
Best deli in the area, by far. GET THE CARROT CAKE. You will not be disappointed. The service can be a bit rushed, so take your time and enjoy! It also can get pretty loud, so don't expect an intimate setting. The food is great though and portions are generous.
(4)alan W.
Took the wife there for brunch today. She got the Lox/eggs/onions and i got the pastrami hash eggs with hollandiase sauce. The service was good and her meal was excellent. My pastrami was full of gristle. I can't recall the last time that ever happened. I asked for the manager to come over and explained the situation with the bad meat. His reply to me was 'we'll have to check the recipe" (alternative answers would have been: sorry about that, can we get you something different; we'll take that off the bill; next time you come, ask for me and we'll comp you something) Because of that, i'm only giving it 3 out of 5.
(3)Perry K.
Came here for a sunday brunch and at first, we thought we were at the wrong place because it was like a grocery type of place. We didn't realized the restaurant is at the back of the grocery store. We got seated immediately even though it was packed in there. There were many delicious options in the menu but what caught my eye was their special which was challah french toast. OMG, I was in heaven when I took a piece off and dipped it on hot syrup! My husband had some sort of meat omelette and he was stuffed. Definitely check out the free pickle bar which consist of many vegetables such as beets, some sort of carrot salad etc. The private parking lot is somewhat tiny and limited so try to get there early!
(4)Jane F.
Had lunch there today, good food; cranky waiter (typical); but my issue is why is it such a HUGE deal to substitute a small salad for fries?? I'm willing to pay, but whenever I ask, the curt answer is always "no." Frankly, I really don't get why folks are so in love with place...the food is okay and with the exception of a few wait staff, most are cranky and rude...
(3)Kumi K.
I went on a Saturday afternoon with another person and we happened to drop by because he said he loved it, he grew up eating at this place. Turns out it was really good! You walk in and it looks like a small deli with meats and other items you can order by weight. But keep going towards the back you'll find the actual restaurant seating area. The person I was with says it's always packed in there. As other reviewers have said, there is a pickle bar, pretty tasty actually. I tried the Deli Twins - pair of sandwiches: hot corned beef & pastrami on onion rolls with a side of potato salad or fries. They are about slider size. Perfect size for a meal and I got to try to different sandwiches! Both meats were moist and delicious! If I am ever back in that area, I will be sure to stop in for another sampling of the menu!
(4)Martha W.
In an area with far too few delis, Parkway was a wonderful, family-friendly discovery. The food is good, the portions are enormous, and the vibe is lively on a Sunday. It was crowded but we were waved through (party of five) quickly and served right away. The waitress was attentive to the small children as well as to the adults. We ordered an assortment of things: pancakes and waffles for the kids; matza ball soup, bagels, and salad for the adults. Very good. While it's not Katz Deli in New York, I will definitely be back.
(4)Abby J.
Yummy Jewish deli and restaurant! Bring a cooler to take home fresh cold cuts, lox, and baked goods. Potato pancakes could have been a bit better. Lox were delicious and fresh. Bacon and spinach omelet was very good. Grits were also very good! Great find!
(5)Helen C.
I had their vegetarian matzo ball soup and their eggplant fries. Pretty good food, will have to come back again for a better evaluation. Place was packed on Friday at around 2pm but that did not hinder the prompt waiter service.
(4)K S.
Great NY style deli in SS; only one I know of like it in the area. Great variety on the menu and everything is excellent to absolutely delicious. Awesome matzoh ball soup, omelets, desserts, salads & out of this world sandwiches at totally reasonable prices. Service and atmosphere are perfect for a NY style deli, love it.
(4)Tu-van L.
Solid deli and restaurant with a Jewish flair. Weird setup with the restaurant line crow dining the deli side but it gets the job done. Plenty of dining space and the wait staff was really friendly. Highlight of our meal was a tasting of their pastrami hash. OMG it was absolutely DELICIOUS! If you see it as a breakfast special like we did, just order it. Don't think about anything else. My French dip was tasty bough I though the dipping jus was on the salty side. Just go easy with dipping into it and you can still enjoy the meaty, onion-y flavor. Meat was dry and bland otherwise. Fries were tasty but nothin terribly special. My side of Mac and cheese was also delicious in its creamy, cheesiness. My husband's Deli Twins (hot pastrami and corned beef sandwiches on onion rolls) were tasty though there was too much onion too to meat ratio. Potato salad was also good but a bit heavy on the mayo. Men has lots to offer - good reason to come back to eat your way rich the menu.
(4)Alex O.
I can see why this place is always packed, both for carryout and dine-in. Walking in there is a mini deli with many food items including beer. I came in to the back room and was greeted nicely by the staff and was served by a friendly and warm waitress which made me feel like a regular. For as busy as it was service was relatively quick and the pickle bar was a great mini appetizer (I love pickles so...) I ordered a crabcake sandwich which was done perfectly from the size and taste of the crabckae patty to the soft buns and sauce. Coleslaw didn't have that much flavor but the fries that came with the sandwich were on point with the crispiness and seasoning. My meal was a lot more filling then I thought it would be! The milkshakes are sweet and thick, just how they're meant to be made. My only complaint is that a few of the seats are way to close, almost shoulder to shoulder where I was sitting. Besides that this place knows how to turn a deli up a couple of notches!
(4)David B.
I wanted a deli for breakfast in the DC area, and was happy enough here that I came back. It isn't kosher, no way no how, but it is traditional Jewish in style. They even had matzo brie, which wasn't quite like you'd get it back at home, the matzo being too dry and not adequately mixed in, but it was OK. Best thing in the whole place, though, was in the little market up front, where they sell bags of potato chips, including a flavor with Chesapeake Bay crab seasoning. No crab, just the seasoning. Man, was that ever good and addictive.
(4)Alece R.
I've been going here for years. I got carry out so I missed the pickle bar. But my mom loved her corned beef and knish. My baube makes better brisket but it was very good. The macaroni and cheese...I thnk i will be dreaming of it. Two thumbs up.
(4)Rogue M.
Excellent eats, affordable and not overpriced, wide selection, fast and friendly service, never wait long if at all, unpretentious atmosphere. This place is a gem in the area!
(5)Tiffany L.
I've been here twice now and both times were really good. It's the best deli I've been to in the dmv. Today we went in early and we were sad to find out that the pickle bar wasn't up yet!! I was really looking forward to a bunch of pickled goodies. I got the two eggs with hash browns and toast then added corned beef hash. Corn beef hash was really.. Hashed corn beef! Lol it was seasoned nicely with some pieces of hash brown in it. Really good! My boyfriend got the corned beef and pastrami on pumpernickel sandwich.. With a lot of toppings. The sandwich really good too. The pastrami and corned beef were seasoned really well, not too salty not too bland. Coffee was good, toast was good.. Just a really good brunch overall. This is definitely our go to place for pastrami and corned beef. I wanted to try almost everything on the menu.. Eventually I will lol. The first time we came here it was packed. Today was fairly empty.. Probably because of the snow and it was 1030 on a Wednesday. Allow yourself some waiting time if you come on the weekend.
(5)Gee G.
Great place for brunch. Terrific milk shakes, pancakes, omelets and I go gaga over the matzo ball soup. Beware the place gets super packed for brunch on Sat and Sunday and they won't seat you until your entire party has arrived. But know that it's also a terrific place to grab things and go back home to enjoy. Service is quick and the sandwiches are super delish as well to go and a great little place to pick up food from if someone is feeling a little bit under the weather.
(5)Greg G.
I had a sandwich called "Delight." It was pastrami, muenster, slaw, Russian dressing, on grilled pumpernickel. It was delicious but a bit pricey. Sandwich and soda (no side) came to $15 after tax and tip. For that price, I would have liked, at the very least, a bag of plain Utz chips on the side, if not some fries. The complimentary (dine in) pickle bar was awesome. The staff were really nice. The dining area is nothing fancy. Overall a very satisfying lunch but as I said a bit pricey and I would have liked some chips with my sandwich. I saw some breakfast orders going out to other diners that looked amazing. I can't wait to try the pancakes.
(4)Coconut J.
This place is super close to home and always has a good selection. You can go in to enjoy a sit-down meal or just get something to go from the pre-made line. The staff has always been kind and professional. There is 2 parts to this place the front part is a mini-mart. I like it because its the only place i can pick up a bottle of wine without actually driving to an actual Spirits store. This is also where you can get a variety of quick pre-made foods and deserts for carry out. The back part is set up like a nice Mom & Pop restaurant. It can get a little crowded on weekends during breakfast and lunch. However, that's a positive testament to the Deli's good food, atmosphere, and service. This was also an after school stop for alot of the kids when Rock Creek Elementary was open. The school is currently being rebuilt and will be reopening soon so the kids will start flocking there again after school. When that happens I would avoid this spot during weekdays from 2:30-3:30. Outside of that, I have to say this is definitely a hidden gem and worthy of a visit.
(5)Fran P.
HUNGRY, don't eat here, well at least don't have what I had. Now I've eaten here in the past and the food was always good. However, in the past three years things have changed and that may be due to management. Anyway, I went to the Parkway Deli as I was VERY hungry and it was convenient. I ordered the Stuffed Flounder special and got spinach and stuffing with gravy. Now for some strange reason the deli was quite crowded tonight and I waited approximately a half an hour for my order. Once I received it, I checked to make sure everything was in there. The main dish was placed inside a take out tray and covered in plastic wrap. My sides were in separate containers. When I arrived home i had to place my food in the oven, due to the fact that it was EXTREMELY cold. The fish, looked as if it came out of a box, was placed in a microwave and placed on top a bed a rice. As a matter of fact it did, that's the reason it was so cold. The spinach, was frozen, sauteed with some white onions to appear as if it was seasoned, but that didn't help it, for it still tasted TERRIBLE. The stuffing, well that was probably the only thing that was worth eating. I attempted to eat the flounder, but couldn't due to the fact that it was dry. After eating not only was my stomach upset, but I also had terrible indigestion and I DON'T GET indigestion. To say that I was disappointed with the meal is an understatement. Unfortunately, I was unable to return to the restaurant for a refund due to the fact that they close at 10 and it was already 9:30 when I settled down to eat. I know many people absolutely LOVE this place, but I must say this is one person, who will NOT return. I say eat at your own risk and if you eat choose your meal wisely.

Count me surprised when I came across this authentic Jewish deli in the middle of nowhere, Maryland. I came here for a nice Sunday brunch, and was floored by the masses of people in the place. I took this to be a very good sign of what was to come. The menu was extensive, and in some cases that might not be the best thing, but my eyes bulged at the all the options. Mexican chorizo, American burgers, French fries, oh my! True to the style of restaurant, I decided to go for a classic corned beef and pastrami Reuben, and boy did it deliver. Despite my great appetite, I could barely finish my plate. Everything was more than affordable to boot. Also, as a major pickle fan, the free pickle bar was a major plus. And it wasn't just your typical half pickle that comes with burgers, but all kinds of pickles, as well as coleslaw, beets, carrots, and green tomatoes. Quite a nice touch to an already great meal. Don't let the entrance to the place fool you. It's a takeout counter as well as a wine store. But venture a few more steps inwards and you will be treated to deli heaven. If I am ever in Silver Spring again, I will be sure to drop by.

Best. Deli. Ever. The food is phenomenal and the service is outstanding. I can't believe I've never been here before! Sit-down or take-out, they've got it all. When we arrived the parking lot was jam packed, so we had to park down the street, but any time a place is packed and rockin with people, you know it's going to be good! We were seated quickly and our server was attentive, professional, and friendly I had an everything bagel w/ whitefish + tomato + side of bacon. My fiancé had a veggie omelette + side of fresh tomatoes. Food was superb! Highly highly recommend

My favorite thing at this restaurant, without any doubt, are the eggplant fries with a side of ranch. Other awesome dishes are the hash brown omelet (crispy crust on the hash browns with a buttery inside), potato pancakes, cornbread stuffing, turkey and brie panini, and the open faced brisket sandwich. The desserts are wonderful- especially the turtle cheesecake! Some dishes can be a bit of a miss. The breakfast quesadilla can be great sometimes and other times will have way too much spinach. The chicken wrap is awesome sometimes but then other times the chicken is chopped weirdly, like they smashed it instead of cutting it with a knife, giving it a weird consistency. The service can also be hit or miss. Sometimes the waiters are super fast, friendly, and efficient. Other waiters are not as good at remembering everything you order or bringing out the dishes together. Overall, some of the better dishes and desserts bump this up to a 4 instead of a 3.

From the moment you walk in you will be delighted. Upon entering you walk past the sweets cases, the delicious hot side items, a huge selection of wine, then you will be greeted and sat promptly. Servers are very friendly and knowledgable. They keep refills coming and welcome you to the free pickle bar which not only has several types of pickles from dill to half sours, but also pickled veggies, beets and carrot slaw. I had grilled turkey sandwich with Brie ( very generous on the Brie thank you!) and cranberry sauce which tasted like a yummy Thanksgiving delight. Dr. Browns soda is on the menu and the cream soda always goes nice with deli food. Fries were hot and crispy and generous. There are delis closer to me but I am already planning my next trip to Parkway Deli. They have a Kosher chili dog on the menu that has been calling my name.

I never knew what a real Reuben could taste like until I came here. For a $9 sandwich, I got the most generous portion of delicious flavorful meat. It was so good. The end.

Another 4 star review for the place that already has so many 4/5 star reviews. We stopped by the other day for weekend brunch and it was an experience! First thing to note is get in line - literally the line snakes around the front part of the restaurant that serves as a store for takeout orders and and also stocks sodas, chips, and other snack items. The wait was about 25 minutes for us to get to the front of the line. Since we there was 4 of us, we were sent to another line in the back of the restaurant but this time the wait was under 10 minutes. The tables here are small and good for 4 people so larger parties may have to sit on different tables. Tho they do have a few larger tables. Service is quick and efficient - given that they want quick turnaround, but at no point we felt it was pushy to get us out quick! They have a wide selection to choose from and we ordered the Chorizo sausage and egg wrap; and Nova omelette. Both dishes were very good and not overly cheesy etc. They do have a pickle bar that goes well with any dish. Parking is a bit crampbed, but we will definitely be back soon to try other items on the menu!

Got carryout lunch: a delight sandwich, a falafel, and a bacon cheddar burger...all were wonderful! Fresh tasty fries on the side and best pickle spears I've tasted anywhere. Also got key lime pie and the turtle cheesecake, both very large slices that were so fresh and tasty. Bottled drink selection is huge, we got a grapefruit soda, a pineapple soda and a lemon lime soda. Absolutely would go out of my way to go back here. Prices a little high, but worth it. There is a dining room, and a few outdoor tables.

Can we talk about GREAT hangover food? It's worth the trek from wherever I laid to rest the night before for their great selection of NY style deli fare. Eggs, homemade hash browns, crispy bacon, turkey, matzoh ball soup, you name it. Friends from all over the states also walk away satisfied. [ The only thing is: if the sight of another drop of alcohol may nauseate you, find somewhere else. You have to walk through the grocery style section of beer & wine to get to the dining room. ;) ] Parkway is consistently delicious and their baked goods are great take home items to munch on later. (It's one of the only places around that have pink chocolate tea leaf cookies!) Dig in.

Stopped by for breakfast for the first time about a month ago. Tiny place, but efficient. We ordered the biscuits and gravy special. The gravy was good, but we didn't love their take on it by adding sausage links inside the biscuit. They weren't necessary. The did have some of the best scrambled eggs I've ever had. I know it's just eggs, but they were REALLY good.
(3)Bryony B.
Everything here is tasty and cheap. They have a pickle bar which is fun. Their selection of cakes and other desserts, etc is awesome! Salted Caramel cake is the best - mmmmm. Been here quite a few times because my friends and family love it so much. It's a little old inside and there are always a lot of people, but its a neighborhood favorite.
(4)Judith D.
My spinach and mushroom omelette had canned mushrooms in it. The hash browns were excellent. Friend had a cheese blitz - not good. He had to order a side of hollandaise to make the lox and eggs palatable. But we were seated quickly, the food came fast, the server was friendly enough and there was hardly an open table in the place so obviously others had good experiences. If I were able to eat sandwiches (gluten issue) I'd definitely go back - those look AWESOME.
(3)Judy K.
Food and service is always on point and great! I always order take out and it's never been a disappointment. Salads always fresh and their sandwiches are always tasteful. Fries are yum too.
(5)Leon W.
I reviewed this restaurant about 1 year ago. I was not happy with the corn beef which I found to be tasteless. My wife and I revisited the restaurant a couple of days ago. What a difference. The corn beef was very good and the onion rings were great. I have to believe this is not the same corn beef I had last visit. We will definitely return.
(4)Ben A.
How did I not hear about this place until now? If you are craving chicken soup with matzoh balls, out-of-this-world deli sandwiches, or the best smoked fish this side of New York City, then you should definitely pay a visit to Parkway Deli. We went over the weekend for the first time since arriving in DC, and all of us greatly enjoyed pigging out here!
(4)Brenda L.
Came here yesterday for breakfast with my family and the reviews I had read about this place were so very accurate. We got there early enough that we were able to find parking easily and the wait for a table wasn't too bad. The waiter was very attentive which I appreciated greatly. Now on to the FOOD. It was so good. It really hit the spot. I had the challah french toast with scrambled eggs and 2 veggie sausages. The challah french toast was absolutely delicious. My dad had the blueberry banana pancakes and they looked so tasty I almost wanted to eat them right off of his plate. The service was fast, the food was great, and the ambience was very cozy. I will definitely be back.

I don't think I've had a more pleasant experience while eating then when I came to the Parkway Deli yesterday morning. I moved to Silver Spring a little over a year ago and always frequented the Tastee Diner since it was conveniently located across the street from me. My good friend who visits about once a month wanted to switch things up from Tastee, so we hopped on Yelp, typed in "breakfast" and Parkway was the first result. With such a high score and 200+ reviews, we hopped in the car and drove one mile over. Wow. What a great breakfast. What friendly service. We had Mary Ann as our waitress. Such a comforting personality and aura. My buddy had never tried locks in his life, so she gave him a generous sample for the first-timer. We also had a nice sample of their chicken noodle soup. My god, was it delicious. The menu is full of unique items such as a hash brown omelet. Just typing this, I want to go back. I will be bringing all of my friends and family, when they visit, to Parkway from now on for breakfast. Also, the Matzoh Ball soup is phenomenal. The Yelp-hype is strong with this one, folks.

My husband and I ate here before visiting my Dad in a nearby nursing home. As soon as we walked in I was drawn straight to the deli. We sat down to eat and I felt warm inside right away. Looking at the menu, I figured out this was a Jewish/NYC style deli. I had never heard of a "pickle bar" before, but was pleasantly surprised it was complementary when ordering a meal and they had beets!! Our meals were not the best we've ever eaten, but was hearty and plentiful and the service was great! The decor was kind of dated, but this just added to the charm of a bygone era so it didn't bother me. Took home some chocolate covered macaroons from the bakery! We will definitely be back, maybe for breakfast next time! Little gem of a place!

When you belong to the gym next door you're occasionally drawn into the deli after a brutal workout. It's almost always packed which is a sign to how good it is. It's your favorite homestyle cooking with a side of always friendly staff and an awesome pickle bar that is the world's greatest idea when dining with 2 children 2 and under. What a perfect way to keep them busy so you can actually eat your food. The reuben is by far the greatest thing on the menu, and the best reuben we've found so far.

I've had take out here and it is good like 4 stars worthy, but my favorite meal was sitting down at the restaurant for breakfast. Omg I wish I would have come here sooner for their morning grub, but now I know. Going to have some late breakfast on a Monday holiday, we head to Daily Dish for some breakfast. We get there to realize that they are only serving limited options of poached eggs and French toast with bacon (annoyingly no turkey bacon or fruit available at 1220pm). This was the second time I came to the daily dish hoping to try breakfast to find out only a few breakfast choices are available. Annoyed and craving breakfast/brunch food, I leave to wait in line at Parkside for a two person table. After 15 min wait my bf returns from paying the dirty chai tea drinks from the daily dish and we are seated. The service was fast and we had a tall attractive server with a Russian accent help us. He was very friendly and helpful with my questions about the menu and he had great recommendations. We ordered the awesome latkes, lox, and eggs breakfast, the granola yogurt with bananas and French toast. So so good. The Greek yogurt was def not fat free but it was great. I have never thought of adding bananas to yogurt. The French toast was great, but the best part was the Latkes, lox, and eggs meal. The best combination of breakfast foods ever to grace your taste buds and dance on your tongue. With the service, the speed, the free pickle bar, and the food. This place is 5 stars. Take out sandwiches are good, but 4 stars for the deli food. I have had several surperb ny delicatessen sandwiches in queens and the LES that are five stars and this, place comes close, but not close enough.
(5)Mina C.
Okay, so this place has a pickle bar ( as many other reviews state). This is the sole reason I came. I didn't really like everything at the pickle bar, but its free and it's something you don't see everyday. Parkway is like a NYC style Deli. The sandwiches are HUGE. I did enjoy my meal here. I will have to come back and try the Reuben, because that seems to be the most popular item.
(4)Constance C.
Big portions, New York deli taste. It's not Katz's, but it is definitely good. I had a big oil' pile of yummy corned beef stacked on rye. I accidentally ordered cole slaw as a side, which was too much for me, especially since I just wanted enough to put on my sandwich, so watch out for the different portion options (and prices). My husband got pastrami with provolone and sauerkraut and was happy. My daughter got a massive order of blueberry pancakes with blueberry syrup. The syrup was loaded with blueberries and not over sweet, and a lot of bacon a la carte. I do wish they had a kids' menu because it was a lot to eat for a three-year-old...not to mention a lot to pay for a mini person. Great selection, quick service, lots more to try. Loved the pickle bar, of course. How could you not?
(4)Anthony C.
The parkway is as close to a NY deli as you find in DC. Good sandwiches, full menu of lunch and dinner options and a pickle bar. The front part of the place is a bakery and to-go food. The back has sit down tables and booths with waiter service. There can be a wait on peak weekend hours. The breakfast is standard fare and good--it's tough to screw up breakfast. I like their French toast. Lunch and dinner has all of the standard diner things: Triple decker sandwiches, deli and some open face. I Ike the turkey open face dinner that comes with two sides. I usually order the gravy on the side. The turkey is real carved bird, probably from a roasted breast meat slab. Very tasty. I like their stuffing as a side dish--most of the choices seem to be homemade. There is nothing is avoid--but the farther you stray from sandwiches the more risky the choice. The matzo ball soup is a favorite. Not as good as The Edison (NYC) but solid. One thing I don't like--and this is kind of nuts-- are the square/rectangle dishes. It should be diner plates. Square plates are incongruous with diner/deli food.

Very cheap for what you get complimentary pick bar is great and has incredible deserts and pastries
(5)David B.
I have been coming to Parkway Deli for 20 years. The food is great, the prices are very reasonable, and the menu is large. Their Matzah Ball soup is the best, and the pickle bar is awesome. They have great sandwiches (Reuben is my favorite), great dinners (open face turkey is my favorite) as well as many traditional jewish foods and lots of other choices. Highly recommend for any meal.

This is my favorite. Staff are nice, food is EXCELLENT. I love it more than life itself. My whole office goes crazy for the matzo ball soup. This is such a hidden gem.. don't let it get out!
(4)Chuck B.
I'll admit I'm not a real "soup and sandwich" kind of guy, so maybe this wasn't the best place for me and my accustomed taste of Nigerian soups/sauces (VERY different). Maybe I'll have to try a few other menu items if i go again. The place was busy but service was pretty quick all-around, and we could tell that our server was trying to keep herself moving. I had the crab cake sandwich which was pretty decent, but didn't come with anything other than a dry 'slaw and a lemon wedge to go with it when I was expecting some kind of sauce. Also had the popular matzoh ball soup. It tasted like soup. The pickle bar was cool, I guess. As my grandfather said when he first visited America, "This was a very Caucasian experience."
(3)Staffan D.
Superb sandwiches! Healthy sizes and swift and good service.
(4)Julie D.
Can get pretty crowded during peak hours during the weekends, but the wait is worth it if you're looking for something different than the usual chain breakfast restaurants. My favorite dish is the latkes, nova lox, and eggs (potato pancakes topped with nova, 2 eggs, served with toast and homemade chunky apple sauce.)
(4)Michelle Q.
Jewish deli to the extreme. Love the fresh pickle bar. Had an awesome chocolate egg cream. Dining companion and I went halfsies on two Reuben Grills. Pastrami for him, Corned beef for me. (Or was it the opposite? No matter, both excellent.) Buttery, grilled rye, perfectly juicy meat piled high...::sigh:: Need to go back and try matzoh ball soup, and bagel/lox platter for ultimate Jewish verification. (Note: Matzoh ball soup is cheaper on the takeout menu.) Pumpernickel bagels on the weekends! Service was fast if ordering the sandwiches. Table next to us got more 'brunchy' items; their order was taken before us, but were served after. Servers were welcoming but brisk; this is a not a leisurely spot on Saturday at noon!
(5)Ben Y.
Went here on the advice of a neighbor who said that this is the best deli in the MoCo area. I think he may be right. As much as I liked Gilly's in Rockville, I think this is better. Parkway does a good sandwich. I had turkey with Brie and the wife had a corned beef sandwich and both were excellent. The fries were pretty good, nice and hot and crispy. The pickle bar is nice also. Lots of variety there and the acid/tart tastes provide a good compliment to the fatty in the sammies. Parking is not too bad as there is an open lot for the plaza it is in. We went there at 7PM at night on Saturday and there was still a wait to get a table. The place is busy. They have this great poster on the wall which shows great deli's in the US. Attman's in BMore is listed there. Having been to Attman's for corned beef (to provide a comparison) I think Attman's is slightly better, but its close. Definitely want to come back someday for breakfast. They have a nice selection of items.
(4)Pammy S.
When my husband and I don't feel like cooking dinner, this is our go-to spot. First stop is the free pickle bar, but we avoid the "stinky-foot" pickles and head straight for the bread and butter pickles and beets. My favorite is the turkey, cranberry sauce, and brie hot sandwich. I am also a fan of the eggplant fries, potatoe pancakes, and the malts.
(4)Kim R.
I agonized over what number of stars to give Parkway. I have had some great meals there, I love the pancakes, the eggs, the hash browns... oh, the hash brown omelet! I could go on. I don't mind the decor, although it isn't exactly, er, nice. Luckily the wait staff is very, very nice. They have been very accommodating of the girls every time we've been (the food allergy thing is so not happening here though, so we just bring food for that kid and they don't mind). But I've had uninspiring experiences at PD too. I once waited 45 minutes for take-out. And it was soup and wings. So I've giving it 4 stars because despite the (very) occasional blip in service, my stomach calls out for this place some weekend mornings like in A Streetcar Named Desire... "Paaaaaaarkwaaaaaaaaaay!" Overall when you need some deli, they've got it. Yum.
(4)Jennifer F.
I have been a very regular customer of Parkway for the past 3 years. I probably go here too often--many of the staff (both the hosts/hostesses and wait staff) know my friends and what we tend to order. You can't go wrong at Parkway. I highly recommend the California BLT Panini if you are there for lunch or dinner, and for breakfast/brunch the french toast is divine. How could a place with a complimentary pickle bar ever be bad? A few things to keep in mind: it's small. During peak eating periods, it can get crowded and somewhat loud. Sometimes there may be a wait, particularly if your party is more than 4 people. I haven't noticed a significant increase/busy-ness due to the Groupon promotion (which I didn't even take advantage of--I love this place that much, that I am always willing to pay full price). Also, if you are in the area and are just looking for take-out, the prepared hot foods selection is amazing.
(5)Alexis K.
Great value for money, wonderful service. Extensive, tasty brunch menu with lots of choices you definitely don't see everywhere.

Long live Parkway Deli! Delicious Reubens, Matzo Ball Soup, Club Sandwiches, and reasonably priced beer to go.... sign me up! I made my first visit to Parkway this past weekend, after hearing nothing but great things. I really only have myself to blame for waiting so long, it is super easy to get to location wise, and the food (I ordered to go) was hot, fresh, delicious, and quick. The desert case looked stellar, but I was running late to a Friend's place so I kept it to a wonderfully over stuffed corned beef and Cheddar, with a side of Dijon mustard. YES. Absolutely delicious, and at around 8 bucks, a bargain. Add a 6 pack of Honey Brown (which I have not seen in years btw) and I was all set to go. Parkway delivered in the immense hype- well done.
(4)J. D.
Certainly a local legend and, usually, they live up to the hype. PROS: - The food is not mind-blowing but it very rarely disappoints (I've been a patron for nearly fifteen years). The oft-mentioned pickle bar is great. The deli sandwiches, which I normally go for, are generous and of good quality. Good matzoh ball soup, good reuben, good fries, great mac & cheese, free refills, tons of parking in the back (as well as an entrance to the restaurant from the back lot). CONS: - Unlike other reviewers on here, I'm usually not that wowed by the service. Generally friendly but also prone to indifference, more than a few times I've had an order come out wrong and it'll take 10-15 minutes before the right thing (say, the bread on the sandwich being toasted instead of plain -- which should take maybe 5 minutes max) comes out. - They could definitely be friendlier at the carry out section .... and lose the Dallas Cowboys hat, dude. This is Redskins country. - Whether or not this is a pro or con depends on who you are but the place is often crowded, loud, full of large groups, lots of kids, etc. If you're at a two-top, there's a good chance you'll be just inches from the next table. Some people have a problem with that so, during peak times, be prepared to get familiar with what's going on in the life of whoever you're sitting next to. Overall, one of my favorite places to eat in MoCo and, despite the few cons, always worth the trip.
(4)Josh S.
Best deli ever is on GRUBB road? Of COURSE it is. Since the day my sister and her husband introduced me to this place as a reward for helping them move, I've probably been here about 15 times. The reubens are fantastic and full of the juiciest meat you can imagine. The breakfast quesadilla is off the charts with a really great combination of egg, bacon, and veggies. The pickle bar is full of interesting things. The tres leches cake is one of the best I've ever had. What I come back for most, however, is the potato pancakes, or latkes, whatever you want to call them -- crispy crunchy outside with a satisfyingly greasy potatoey interior. The best bites are those with both sour cream and their chunky apple sauce, momentarily taking you to a apple-y desserty place. The only bad thing about this place is you will always leave severely overfull, not being able to help grubbing out to the max. Actually, I should mention one time I came when the potato pancakes and reuben were slightly off. They were so accomodating and we could both only come to the conclusion that it was just a bad batch, but they tried several times to remake the food, before comping it.
(5)Raycal B.
I really like this place. It doesn't look like a restaurant from the frontal view because the restaurant is in the back of the deli. But they have remodeled and it looks good in there. I went again after purchasing the Groupon $10 for $20 worth of food and drinks and it was worth it. The food is really very tasty and fresh. Service is good too.
(4)Josh C.
This is by far one of the best delis I've ever seen. The staff is friendly, the aromas of good meats and comfort food linger in the air as you walk in, and the enticing display of delicious desserts pull you back for more as you wait in line for check-out. I've only done take-out here as the line for sit-in is always extremely long and in my opinion not worth it for locals. Phone in 15-min ahead of time and your food will be waiting for you when you arrive. Love the specialty items such as Deli Twins (a double delight of hot corned beef and pastrami--Parkway's pastrami is legendary!), Chicken Caesar Wrap, and Fish and Chips. Matzoh Ball Soups are always worth it in quart sizes. And Traditional Jewish Fare...potato pancakes and liver appetizers are to die for. Finally, breakfast all day long on weekends. If you're up for a big meal to start the morning (or afternoon), go for the Hash Brown Omelet! Good prices and good food. Can't ask for more from a local favorite. 4 stars because sometimes the service is VERY SLOW. Poor management has led to the hiring of youngsters who run the place more like a fraternity in disarray than a restaurant.
(4)Steven W.
I eat at Parkway anywhere from twice a month to once a week on average, mainly for breakfast. It is hands down the best kosher style deli in the area. My favorite item on the menu is surprisingly their pancakes. They are GREAT! They also have amazing spinach and cheese omelets. The flavor of the spinach is incredible. Of course I haven't mentioned the tremendous potato latkes, served with applesauce and sour cream. They are a nice starter or side dish. Just an overall great place where they have anything you are looking for on the menu. Service is always nice and the staff is friendly.

A few months ago my boyfriend and I moved 1 block away from Parkway, and it has been downhill ever since. I had been to Parkway a couple times in my youth. My dad occasionally brought home matzoh ball soup (aka Jewish penicillin) when we were sick. He also constantly described his love for the pickle bar and was thrilled when my older sister waitressed there for a few years. I hadn't thought much about the deli until we decided to move to Silver Spring. Whenever I mentioned to anyone where my new place was, they inevitably said, "Oh, that is right next to that great deli!" It started the day we moved in, take out sandwiches from the deli for lunch and these amazing rainbow tea cookies. We soon learned that Parkway was a great place for carry-out for lunch, dinner, and dessert. They have a great little bakery section to satisfy any sweet tooth (great freshly baked cookies). The carry-out is always ready in about 10 minutes, and the food never fails to disappoint if you are looking for a fast, greasy fix. Our favorites have been the bourbon bacon cheeseburger (with very yummy fries) and the monterey chicken pannini. As previously mentioned, the breakfast is famous. There is always a long line, but the staff are pros at getting you in and at a table. Most often we frequent the convenience store in the front of the restaurant where you can get wine, beer, cartons of ice cream, and (our favorite) hot fries...mmm... The only real reason why I gave Parkway 4 stars is because my gym is right next door, and I hate how great it smells as I leave, tempting me to negate all the hard work and just get some greasy goodness.
(4)Bill W.
Loud, crowded, with a menu that will drive you insane if you don't know what you're in the mood for. (So many options!) You'll want to pick a section (breakfast, sandwiches, etc.) to focus on! Omelet was okay. Not cheesy enough for my liking. The decorative grapes on the side should have been tossed a day earlier (ew). Hash browns here are perfect. Fast service. It's a diner. No high expectations here. But none needed. It fulfills all the requirements of a diner and is a fun outing, if you can deal with some mild chaos.

I like the variety it offers.

Love this deli. Cozy, inviting, and the food is delicious. Big fan of the "Delight". I also appreciate the large menu with a variety of meals to choose from. The waitresses we have been waited on by have always been friendly and smiling. Always happy to bring my family here for a dinner date. The pickle bar is a nice feature. My kids enjoy the pickled baby corn and whole pickles. I also appreciate the step stools at the bathroom sinks for little ones to be able to wash their hands too; very convenient. Thanks, Parkway Deli.

Based on some reviews we checked it out Sunday morning-ish (11:45am). Everything on the menu looks fantastic but I settled on the Latkes, Lox, and Eggs. I was most definitely not disappointed. The entire meal was prepared perfectly. The breakfast came with a couple pieces of fruit and their delicious chunky applesauce. The other order was a club sandwich that was enormous and consumed the entire plate. The coffee was decent but there were no refills on it or water, really the only detraction from the experience. In the waiting "area" (half of a hallway cordoned off by what I like to imagine was a velvet rope) they hang "proverbidiom" pictures which, if you are in the mood, can help pass the waiting time. Excellent choice for a breakfast/brunch/whatever, I'll definitely go again.
(4)Annie B.
The manager contacted me is response to my prior review and said that they had a problem with their latke manufacturer, but that it has been resolved and urged me to come back for another try. Sadly, it is a bit of a drive for me... I do appreciate that type of concern for customers' opinions and if I am in the area will have to stop by and try again...

I most definitely love this place. I went there recently to use a Groupon I had purchased. I ordered the Orange Crumb French Toast, and my friend had the Crab Cake Sandwich. Both were EXCELLENT. The french toast comes with a generous side of syrup and two eggs. All of it was really good. The crab cake was delicious and was topped with eggs in a Hollandaise-type sauce. To take home I bought two slices of Dulce de Leche cheesecake, which was also really good. Next time I'd really like to try some of their deli meats and other desserts which look delicious and fresh. Go here and eat!

Bacon Bits are not bacon! They serve dishes with bacon bits disguised as "crumbled bacon". Who the hell serves an egg sandwich or anything for that matter with bacon bits except the old folks home. I'm from NJ and I know delis and this place is not a deli. The service has been lousy the two times we've gone - the second time we just got up and left after sitting there without water or coffee for 10 minutes. Owner argues that bacon bits were not used but then admits they do use them. Junk

I ate from both the deli and restaurant on separate occasions. The deli was very, very good but the restaurant was eh...The restaurant food was obviously overcooked and once frozen food. The servers and host was extremely nice & efficient.

You know a place is kid-friendly when you regularly bump into parents you know, with their kids in tow (or kids your kids know, with their parents in tow). That's the kind of neighborhoody, go-to comfort hang-out that Parkway Deli is. It's the place for when you can't quite decide or agree on where to go, knowing full well you'll find something you like, including comfort food and brinner options, on the menu. They did a makeover some time back, replacing booths, decorating the walls, adding square stoneware, everything became just a touch darker, trendier and more modern. Just as comfortable as always though. While I wish the bagels were better, everything from the sandwiches to the matzo ball soup is generously portioned and tasty. They serve nova lox just about any way you can think of. The pickle bar is well stocked and always a favorite. Every server we've ever had has been great (none have ever minded the endless fascination kids have with sugar packets) and there's nothing like finding Groupons when you'll go anyway. With a place like Parkway you would never miss Krupin's.

This place is my usual weekend brunch spot. The food is pretty good, the servings generous, and the prices fair. My only problem is the quality isn't always consistent and I've had a couple bad dishes. A few times out of dozens isn't enough to keep me from coming back. Lines almost out the door on weekends around lunch time, so just be aware.
(3)Anne L.
There are few places like this left in DC, where executives, plumbers, stay-at-home moms, retired people, and just about anyone and everyone comes to eat. The food is basic, good deli fare and the service is fast, careful, and efficient. This is the place where the waitress remembers that your teenager used to play with toy dinosaurs at the table 10 years ago. Oh, and their chicken soup can cure just about anything.

This place is a cute hidden gem west of Silver Spring, in a little shopping Center off of Grubb Road. The front of this place has a selection of wine, beer, icecream, and a ton of baked goods available. Twice i've gotten a slice of cake to take back to my friends place (right behind the store) and it was delish. In the back there is a small and very busy restaurant serving diner like food, but better and cheaper than any diner i've found in the area. I only provide 4 stars because the place does lack in any sort of ambiance, and the staff is quick but not very personable. All things considered I don't consider either of these attributes deal breakers, and continue to come for Saturday morning breakfast about twice a month.

If you're in the mood for a deli, you should be coming from miles around. Amazing milkshakes, mac and cheese and hashbrown omlets. Having them all at once isn't a bad idea.
(4)Stuart S.
I was craving a sandwich, and more importantly, a pickle. With deli sandwiches and a pickle bar, this place seemed like it could more than meet my requirements. And it did. Good sandwich, great (and plentiful) pickles, nice atmosphere. It's a little strange when you first enter through the store at the front of the establishment, and the dining area is very crowded, but it reminds me strongly of the places my family used to frequent in Queens, New York. Not strictly speaking a kosher deli, so you can get ham, bacon, whatever, and no worries about mixing meat and milk products, either. It's a great restaurant. Now if only it weren't all the way out in Silver Spring.
(4)Brendan C.
I've never actually eaten brunch there as it's always pretty busy. But, I've gotten brunch and dinner to go, and been happy both times. They have a good selection of beer and wine, and good sandwiches. If you're a little hungover, I'd recommend that hash brown omelette. Otherwise, this is exactly what you are looking for in a kosher deli in suburban DC.

Delis are few and far between these days, fortunately this staple, which was always the best in the area anyway, doesn't seem to be going anywhere. I won't downgrade for the tired interior, since it kind of adds to the charm in a way and reminds you that you're there strictly for the food. The pickle bar is the biggest one you'll ever see and a great way to pass the very short time you wait for your food to come out. They offer some of the greatest (almost fluffy) hash browns you'll ever eat. The sandwiches are very generously sized and I can seldom resist the Delight, sort of a play on the Reuben. My other go-to item is a sandwich with pastrami and chopped liver on pumpernickel. My daughter loves a fancy deli sandwich with melted brie on it-- not my thing, but I can see it's excellent if you want something out of the ordinary. Fish platters and matzoh ball soup are great also, they know the genre well and do it the best. I've never been hungry enough after eating here to order dessert, but they look terrific. Service is efficient and helpful. The prices are very fair considering the quality and quantity. Can't wait to go back soon!
(5)Karla A.
I have wanted to check this place out for a while and when we finally went on Sunday night for dinner, it did not disappoint. I couldn't decide if I wanted a Reuben or the pastrami so my bf and I ordered one of each and split. I couldn't tell you which I liked more. The Reuben definitely lived up to my expectations and you know what, so did the pastrami; surely it's no Katz Delicatessen of NY pastrami, but I expected as much...We're talking Silver Spring, MD, folks. The pastrami had the consistency of bacon, which I got past quickly as I inhaled my half. We got the tres leches cake for dessert...um, yeah... that was probably our fault; probably not the best choice considering we were not at a Latin restaurant (sorry, idk where it originated so I will keep it general in saying "Latin"). Anyway, it was so dry in comparison to what we are used to and we couldn't finish; although it was moist for your average cake, for a tres leches cake, it was off-putting. Also, the tables were unnervingly close to one another but I for one could not complain as I was getting my eavesdropping fix and it was most enjoyable... love me some old Jewish ladies gossiping about their "whore of a neighbor"!
(5)Abby B.
pickle bar, matzo ball soup, turkey Reuben, carrot cake....enough said. Ok....fine...I'm gonna continue... My husband's grandmother lives down the street and we always bring her here for meals when we visit. It provides a perfectly comfortable, nostalgic and totally delicious setting to catch up. There is also something to be said for the fact that it was her late husband's favorite eatery. I could live off their pickle bar and they have the best freshly sliced turkey breast Reuben that I have ever had (and trust me, that's a lot). The bread is always crispy, the turkey always warm and the Russian dressing isn't runny (they are always happy to put it on the side if I'm feeling healthy). My husband's staple is the turkey, cranberry sauce, and brie hot sandwich. After three rounds at the pickle bar, soup and a sandwich, there is never room for dessert, but that doesn't stop me from leaving without a jumbo slice of carrot cake (from the bakery counter) to enjoy for the next few days (it is seriously the biggest slice of cake I have ever seen...and for only a few bucks!)
(5)Theo T.
Matzoh ball soup is almost as good as advertised, and their pastrami sandwich is somewhat overwhelming. I usually get their steak & cheese wrap which is pretty decent, though could use a little more flavor. I really like that it comes with chips, salsa, and guac though and at $7, I think it's better value than Chipotle
(3)Randy M.
Even though parkway is a far ways from my house, we've managed to find our way there anytime we are in the area. There's always a crowd in the dining room and a line at the take out counter. Pickle bar, ginormous desserts, great sandwiches, smiles. Because we only visit every once and a while its a real treat for us. I have a friend who is avid about Carrot cakes, says that Parkway carries one of the best pieces of carrot cake around.
(5)Jamie R.
One of my favorites.... I mean, they have a PICKLE BAR! Who has a pickle bar?
(4)sophie S.
One of the best delis in the area. The meal in itself is amazing (and their other sandwiches but esp the corn beef) also their latkes, whitefish and matzoh ball soup. They also have a delicious bakery with wonderful baked goods. Sometimes there is a wait but its worth it. Plus PICKLE BARRRR!!!!!!!! MMMMMM I could go to Parkway everyday!!!!!!
(4)amanda w.
I love the parkway. They are a neighborhood institution with great food. An example: A week ago I was really sick but had to work. On the way home, I called the deli carry out for some matzoh ball soup (the best anywhere). At pick up when the guy heard my voice, he add in, gratis, a coffee cup of broth to make me feel better on the way. What's good at the deli? Get the: Delight - pastrami, coleslaw, munster cheese grilled, so good California BLT Panini - A BLT with avocado in a panini - its great Matzoh Ball Soup - apologies to your mother, but the deli's is better. Eggy breakfasts - omletes, wraps or just over easy. They are great.

I'll keep this review short, but this place is simply awesome. I go here for one intention (maybe others too) and that is their pastrami. Other places in the area cannot compare to how delicious and how well prepared their pastrami is. Little pieces of fat hang out on the side, moist and seasoned well. Their Delight sandwich is devoured each time I go, dripping with Russian dressing and melted cheese (I can taste it and want one now!). It doesn't come with any sides, but please help yourself to the pickle buffet bar. Yes, unlimited variety of cucumbers, peppers, olives, carrot slow, and a veggie mix as well. The misses gets the Hot Open Face Turkey the past two times because their turkey breast is moist! We had some leftovers, popped in the microwave and still moist, I was pretty shocked. Smothered in gravy and served with mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce. The finale are their cakes and pies. Props to their mint chocolate creme pie, outstanding. The others, Boston creme pie and coconut cake are par, had better elsewhere. This place gets PACKED, especially on weekends because of brunch. We also hit up this place for a weekday lunch and it's also packed, so get out here early if you can. Service is good, not great, but focus on the food people. Highly recommended for excellent Jewish fare and I am definitely going to try their knishes next time.

3.5 Stars Went in for Sunday brunch around 10:30. We expected a wait; and received one... about 30 minutes but not too bad all things considered. First shared the Nova combo. The fish itself was great and was served with all the usual suspects but the bagel really left something to be desired. Went with lunch after considerable deliberation (the menu is enormous, as it should be I guess) and ordered the hot pastrami on rye with dijon. 3/5 for the sandwich; good but don't buy the Katz' comparisons... Complimentary pickle bar is a nice touch. Good spot, good coffee, fine service. I would return.
(3)Mina A.
Solid breakfast options and tasty sandwiches. Very friendly service and a big menu. A nice place to eat at when you can't decide where else to go. Plus, I really love their pickle bar!
(3)Tami B.
I hadn't eaten there in a couple of years. When last I ate there, the sandwiches were fabulous. This time I had a cup of matzo ball soup and latkes. The soup itself and chicken were fine and a cup is a large serving (glad I didn't order a bowl!). The matzo ball had a weird, hard texture that made me think it had been frozen and did not have a good flavor either. The latkes were solid, heavy and very greasy. When I cut into one, I hit a patch that was cold and the texture told me for sure it was frozen. Stick to the sandwiches and stay away from the matzo balls and latkes! Update (Aug 2012). I met some friends from Virginia there as they love this deli. This time I ordered chopped liver plate. The liver was delicious and I had plenty to take home as the amount was generous. One of my friends ordered cheesecake and it was pretty good but my taste test is that it makes my taste buds quiver (no quivering occurred).

Terrific pastrami sandwich! Delicious breakfast especially pancakes.

The Parkway is a long time favorite. A tried and true stand-by when you don't want to make a fuss, but you need some good ole fashioned Jewish comfort food, even if you're not Jewish. Great for breakfast, lunch or dinner, the Parkway is not going to win any awards for decor, but service is always fast, efficient and friendly. I have a Parkway "routine" when I go. I ALWAYS order the 1/2 baked chicken with gravy and two sides, with a diet Cel-Ray Soda. Sides for me are always a salad and potato pancakes. Then I order "small" matzo ball soup (the "large" is enough to kill ya). The matzo ball soup is delicious, with fresh chicken stock and light matzo balls, real chunks of chicken, noodles and veg. The potato pancakes are a must. Have them with the apple sauce. You also get your choice of roll, bagel or challah. Portions are HUGE and It's way too much food. I always take some home with me. Every dinner entree gets a trip to the pickle bar, too. Yummy housemade fresh and dill pickles among other briny things. The carrot and raisin salad is great! You won't have enough room to eat dessert when you leave, so stop at the counter on the way out and pick up a black and white cookie for later. Everything on the menu is great. Truly it's hard to go wrong. Deli sandwiches are not the "stacked" style you would see in a NY Jewish deli, so go to NY if that is what you're looking for, but if you're looking for a decent home cooked meal and mother is far away, this the next best thing. hardypartyreview.blogspo…

So glad they ran a Groupon! I knew they had great yelp reviews so I jumped on it. Awesome, awesome, awesome. Food was fantastic, pricing decent, service swift & friendly. My husband ordered the blueberry pancakes with hashbrowns & a side of bacon. I ordered their chorizo wrap with pepper jack cheese. Portions were ginormous! We were stuffed with half. Leftovers baby! We must return to try out the amazing looking pie & cake selections.

Great food, great service but do NOT come on a Sat. or Sun. morning after 10am expecting to get seated quickly. The line is very long as this is a popular deli/restaurant! Gotta love that pickle bar, yummy! Beet salad just like Mama used to make! The parking isn't that bad, most of the time. Very family friendly, and somewhat loud, so do not come for a quiet romantic meal! ;-) Enjoy the latkes and applesauce!
(4)Gregory O.
I have lived near this restaurant all my life and can't believe I didn't eat there sooner. The food is good and you get great value for your money. The menu gives you plenty of choices; it can be tough to decide what you want! Sometimes the service could be better but this is a place I will definitely be coming back to.
(4)Joshua S.
PICKLE BAR!!! That's honestly the best part of the entire place. I love the pickled green tomatoes. As for the food its a pretty damn good jewish fare. All of the stuff on the menu is fantastic and my girlfriends favorite part is getting a little box of rugelach from the store in the front on the way out.
(4)Mike P.
Great food at a good price. Gotta get there early if you want to dine in it gets full quick.
(4)Karina G.
Great place to eat at least once. The prices are great
(5)Laurel C.
Love this place! We are fortunate enough to live very close. The pickle bar is great. We've tried a lot of their dishes over several visits, and I don't think we've ever been disappointed. The tuna melts, veggie burgers, omelets, and pancakes are good. I would also recommend the falafel wrap, which I think is vegan. They also have cheap beer and wine, which is nice. Everything is very reasonably priced. The only thing I've tried that I haven't been too impressed with is the strawberry shakes because they taste like Nesquick strawberry milk (a bit too sugary), but that's a matter of taste. Free parking is readily available. The only downside is this place gets pretty busy on weekends because everyone else knows how good it is :-) .
(5)Rachel T.
For a Deli you cannot beat Parkway. Their Black and White cookies alone would make me a loyal customer, the pickle bar is a cherry on top! Their sandwiches-great, breakfasts-great, specials great, dessert-great, service is amazing and the waitstaff are pros they really know what they are doing. Matzoh ball soup incredible and also reason enough to dine here. Better still phone ahead take out. Come early on the weekends they are popular!
(5)Julie O.
I used to like this place however I received awful service. I brought my mom here because I always raved about this place. It is always busy and I realize the waitress wanted us to eat and run because she made it perfectly clear when she informed us that there were many people waiting in line to sit down. mind you we had just finished eating and my friend was still waiting for a refill (which never came). I asked to speak to the manager who came over, I informed her of what took place and she could care less. I don't care how much I liked the pickle bar, I will never be back!
(1)Martiin G.
It is a family classic since 1981. You got to go there. You can order anything. THey will have it.
(4)Garth S.
My coffee place away from home when I'm visiting family in Chevy Chase. There's not a lot to do in the suburbs, especially when you don't have a car, and short of walking the mile or more uphill to Starbucks in downtown Silver Spring, Parkway is the only nearby place for me to get a cup of coffee at seven in the morning. I've breakfasted in the dining room a few times and from what I remember, the portions are large and the prices, low. But I just prefer to get a large cup of coffee, pick up a copy of the Washington City Paper, sit outside at one of the handful of outdoor tables, and watch the patrons as they waddle out of the restaurant stuffed to the gills with lox and onions and eggs.
(3)Jules J.
This is by far the best deli around Silver Spring. I always enjoy grabbing lunch here. Just a warning - the parking lot gets packed and finding a spot can be tricky. It gets extremely busy at lunch and a few times I have had to wait to be seated. They pack a ton of tables and chairs into the dining room, so be prepared to squeeze in. When all the tables are filled its a bit claustrophobic but I try not to think about it. The servers here are always friendly and the food comes quick and it is delicious! Come with an appetite - sandwiches are piled high! Stop at the bakery counter on your way out and admire the goodies. I always like to splurge on a radial bar. Yum!
(4)Dc E.
Pickle bar. Wide variety of typical deli fare that has never disappointed. Also good place to get bagels and pastrami.
(4)Andrew K.
This place is eons worse than Canter's (in LA), but for DC it's important. I am no kosher, but serving pork at Jewish delis bothers me on principal. (Cheeseburgers I am OK with). My egg cream was a little amateur, and the rye bread embracing my corned beef sandwich was a little soggy. Prices were good (funny disparity among pie slices - one pie was $10; another was like $42.75.) Anyway, wish we had a Canter's, but no such luck!
(3)Maudie A.
Oh WOW this place is good. We went for breakfast with our daughter and family. Our waitress K.C. treated us like we were V.I.P.'s! We had young kids with us and she was so great to all of them too! Now for the food. Out of this world! The mocha coffee was so good and my husband was wild about the bacon. The boys loved the pancakes and sausage. I will be back in future visits. Very nice place. You should go. : )
(5)Lucy B.
How rude. Everyone says this place is the IT deli. I beg to differ. All the delis in germantown are better than this place. First of all, I judge a deli based on their Reuben. The meat on this reuben sandwich was comparable to plastic. You know something is wrong when the strongest flavor you have is from the bread. BLEGH. The Steak and Cheese was tasty. The open faced brisket with gravy, blegh. The "gravy" tasted like concentrated V8 juice. No thanks!
(2)Chris C.
As authentic, jewish-style deli's go... there's not too many in the DC area. Parkway rocks... the motzah ball (chicken) soup is really good, 'specially for the 'day-after' meals... and their traditional deli fare is top notch. (i.e., ruebens) I also think their b'fast food is really good and being a fan of diners, it rates as 'good-as-it-gets' diner food. Stay away from the basics though, some of the regular entrees were avg at best, and ALWAYS expect a line on the wknds. We need more places like Parkway!
(4)Anne F.
I am a loyal Parkway fan and eat there regularly. The pickle bar, the matzoh ball soup, and the whitefish salad are my favorites. The pancakes are good, too. The sandwiches are made with generous portions of fresh cold cuts from the deli. The regular french fries are good but the eggplant fries are better. One thing I love about the Parkway is that it is a family owned and run business. The service is amazing and almost all of the staff have been there a long time. I've read a few reviews where folks have complained about service and they must have been there on an off-day, in my opinion. Tammy, the main hostess, does a good job of seating everyone quickly even when it's really busy. The Parkway is a comfortable, neighborhood establishment that I will definitely keep returning to.
(5)Leandro L.
After coming here for the last twenty some years, ther is nothing I don't love about the food here. Simply the best matzoh ball soup outside your mama's kitchen. The hash-brown omellete is fantastic also. Chicken, pot roast, potatoes.... mmmm. And a free pickle bar!
(5)Eric R.
Awesome breakfast place! And their lunch/dinner is great too. Not many places like this around.
(5)Brian G.
You can't go wrong with a free pickle bar! Very friendly staff - they try to learn the names of repeat customers. Great place to run into neighbors. Fun traditional Jewish dishes and non-Jewish plates alike. I love the eggplant fries. Matzoh Ball soup to go! Now that's perfect for those days when only Matzoh Ball soup can soothe the soul.
(4)Michelle B.
I love this place. I don't care how many friggin' calories it amounts to. The sandwiches are darned good and the pie is too. I love turkey pastrami sandwiches and have developed an affinity for cream pie in my golden years, so Parkway is a win-win for me. I always order dessert here. Coconut cream pie, chocolate-mint pie, etc. Doesn't matter if I'm stuffed from the sandwich and side order of eggplant fries (just try them...so good), pie is a must. Parkway doesn't need my accolades. The free pickle bar says it all. An assortment of free pickles people! Go. Now.
(4)Tatenay M.
Everything about this place is great. The pickle bar is wonderful, and the menu's diverse enough to please anyone (including a vegetarian, a carnivore, and a fairly picky 14-year old). We absolutely loved everything we got (hash brown omelet, sundried tomato and feta omelet, pastrami and corned beef sandwiches, excellent latkes, and shakes), and we got several of the desserts on our way out, because you'd have to be superhuman to pass up that dessert case. A wonderful meal, no matter what time of day it is!
(5)Tom D.
3.5 stars This place is an institution of sorts. I have only been a few times for breakfast -- still need to get a sandwich at lunch..... Breakfast is great --- had the hash brown omelette -- hash browns with ground bacon and cream cheese. Wowser..... I was hoping for and expecting a great bagel -- but nothing like something you would find in NYC....but it is worth the trip!
(4)Jill S.
Keep coming back...lots of good stuff on the menu. Something for everyone (I'm a veggie health nut and my husband is a carnivore extraordinaire). Very reasonably priced and perfect for lunch! There's usually quite a line, but it moves pretty quickly, and we've never waited more than 10 minutes for a table. Plus, for being so busy, they do a good job of keeping the place clean.
(4)Adam Z.
Located in Silver Spring, MD, just off of East West Highway, "The Deli" is a no fuss Jewish restaurant combing the best of a new York deli and greasy spoon diner. It's sandwiched in a strip mall in between a fitness center and organic co op, a rather unassuming place. Upon entering The Deli you are greeted by an extensive selection of wine and beer, available for eat in but most likely for takeout. Walking past the liquor toward the dining room, you there is a long case of cakes and pastries and the takeout counter. Assuming you've made it this far and there still no line you're doing good. On weekend mornings, the line can be back to the front door. But it moves fairly quickly and it's worth the wait. It's a good place to go with... Once again disappointed by Parkway. We ordered several sandwiches and soup today. The Roast beef & provolone panini was ICE COLD. The menu says that this sandwich is grilled, which one would think means that it should be served HOT right? Wrong - according to the unapologetic "Manager" who asked "Well what you do you want me to do?" when I called, the roast beef is not hot, but the cheese should be melted. Well, there was NOTHING hot about our sandwich - so clearly someone didn't make it correctly. Its so irritating calling a place to point out a mistake and the person on the other end does not care. I guess I wouldn't be patronizing them for a while AGAIN..
(1)christine m.
Their breakfast is always delicious. The chorizo sausage and egg wrap is sooo good. Coffee is in a never empty cup. Oh, and the morning servers are the best ever! I've been coming here for ever and it only gets better and better.
(5)Spike B.
Love this place. LUV it. So now that that's out of the way, I will say that it's not the place to go for especially fantastic food or stimulating decor. But it's wonderfully unpretentious, very good at what it does (deli sandwiches, breakfast/brunch dishes) and the servers are for the most part nicely sassy and salt-of-the-earth. And the complimentary pickle bar is fab.
(4)Laurie W.
I was born at the hospital up the street from this place and it tickles me that I can still get some of my favorite things within a ten mile radius. Cue the announcement that brunch at the Parkway is one of my favorite things, Fraulein Maria. I go on Sundays on a semi-regular basis with my friend Andrew, and we eat and solve our life problems and what have you over one of their specials. I've only been here for dinner once or twice, a long time ago. If I come it's for the brunch food. They usually have a nice variety of specials, different kinds of omelets and mixed up scrambled egg things (he had the Mexican scramble today. He loves it.) I usually get the Eggs Benedict or the nova lox plate, because I'm a crazy fool for salmon and capers. The fish is always fresh and the bagel is pretty good for around here. I don't know where they get them from. The clientele skews older and I've heard some of the older couples complain about the salmon (dictating the cut, seriously, while ordering) so I think they have to stay on the ball with that one or risk chaos. Fine by me if that's why it's so good. The eggs Benedict were just okay today. What passes for hollandaise "sauce" here is more like a glaze, and it's my least favorite part of the dish anyway so this made it even less appetizing. I just scraped it off. Otherwise it's a fairly inoffensive but similarly uninspiring version of a breakfast basic. I should have gone with the lox plate. Next time. The lunch and dinner menu is large and all the food seems pretty good - definitely satisfying, comfort food-type stuff. My major beef with the Parkway right now (oh God, I have a beef with the Parkway. Like, get a life, right?) is that they have removed most of the goodies from the pickle bar! This was so unthinkable to me the first couple times I went back that I thought it was a fluke, but no, friends, it's true. There are no pickled tomatoes on the pickle bar at the Parkway Deli. It's a travesty. One waitress got me some from the back when I whined about it without overtly whining. The waiter today was too weeded to worry about it and that was okay. You can't even get them if you offer to pay for them. Blah. Seriously, the pickled tomatoes were awesome. Bring them back. I'll pay for them. The coffee is pretty good - not great, and it should be great, given the place. There's always a line on the weekend, and if your whole party isn't there, you have to stand in the "incomplete line" til they are, then you get to move to the "ready to be seated line". The hostess has been there forever. She's really nice and keeps things moving. The service is good, and they don't get pissy if you sit and chat for awhile. It's close quarters so I wouldn't recommend hunkering down with the Post, and even if you do get a booth, it's just not nice to take up that much space here during the busy time to read the book reviews. Eat, have a couple cups of coffee, gab for awhile, and go on up to Borders. Everyone's happy.
(4)Michael C.
A solid jewish style deli. I've actually never seen the place empty, so that should say something about it. Pretty much everything is good, i'm particularly partial to the club sandwiches even if they did get rid of my favorite one (roast beef, bacon, and bbq sauce, on rye *sigh* why get rid of such a solid combo.) There's also a bakery and convenience store up front. The prices are great, and the service is extremely prompt. Not much wrong w/ this place. I've never tried the dinner entrees but i'm sure they'd be pretty good as well. Hard to go wrong here.
(4)Stanford M.
Hard to add something new, just wanted to contribute to the good ratings. It is absolutely delicious in things other than pastrami sandwiches on rye, feel free to explore the menu. The pickle bar is stellar and I would come just for that.
(5)William H.
The portion sizes are enormous, and the food is awesome! However the order takers need a bit more training and personality.
(2)Steve G.
One of the few remaining traditional Jewish deli's in DC and I think one of the best. Killer breakfasts and you can't beat the free pickle bar!
(5)J. K. M.
I love this place! I have been going since I was 2-years old with my family we always had Joan as our waitress until she retired a few years ago. She always made sure that I had eaten my veggies before desert, right up until she retired. It's a default place to eat out and Sunday brunch is always the BEST especially if you get there before the local churches let out.

Does the basics well. Good for brunch & a good place to take kids.
(3)Brian R.
I quite like the matzoh soup. For $5.95 you get a lot of soup. As with many things, this place is very good, for the D.C. area.

Here is a list of the most delicious items I have had at the Parkway Deli. -Turkey, Brie, and Cranberry Sandwich -Reuben sandwich, huge with lots of meat -Mac and cheese: A classic but delish -Matzah ball soup: Yum, good for those cold winter nights And of course there are the desserts. Always good. Did I mention they also sell beer and wine?
(5)Collin F.
Wonderful neighborhood deli! The food is awesome. My favorite so far is the corned beef and pastrami reuben, or the french dip, or the chicken soup, or the barbequed brisket, or, the omeletes, or the crab cakes, or or, or... I haven't had a bad thing yet. Good stuff. Very nice wait staff. Mary is awesome, and so is everyone else. Go early for lunch -- it gets crowded at noon. Try the pickle bar. Enjoy.
(4)Betsy G.
The best deli around! Large and tasty sandwiches, daily specials of comfort food, all in a bustling atmosphere. Go for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, or anywhere in between. Longish lines on weekend mornings, so maybe make your first visit at a different time.
(4)Donnie B.
I've only eaten here a few times, but so far every time the food has been great. The first meal I ordered Salmon and locks with the potato cakes. These were awesome. The second meal I ordered a few weeks later was the salmon (cooked, not smoked) and eggs, not as good as their smoked salmon, but not inedible. The service was fast and too the point. The only negative (and it's only a negative because I'm young and don't have kids yet), is this definitely is a family friendly restaurant. I'm talking yelling toddlers, crying babies, and crayon books everywhere. So maybe if you show up a little later for dinner or earlier for breakfast you might be able to miss some of the noise if it bothers you. But anyway if you want good value and good food, this is a must if you're in Silver Spring.
(4)Gerald L.
We remain committed "regulars" at the Parkway for over 35 years. Wonderful food, fast service and great management!!
(5)Steve Y.
I definitely feel in the minority here by not giving the Parkway deli a better rating, however I have to say that I'm rating it as a restaurant not so much as a deli. I've had breakfast there a few times and each time I have to say that while the food is fine (its difficult to screw up 2 eggs, bacon, hash browns, english muffin), I've usually come away thinking that the Tastee Diner might be just as good if not better. The dining room area always seems very dated (not in a comfortable nice way, more in a wood panelling, 1970's way) and the wait at busy times can be very long and somewhat chaotic. On the plus side, the prices are very reasonable and the service is fairly friendly (even if they do look like they're being rushed off their feet). The bottom line: if you're craving diner food and you don't care about the atmosphere the Parkway Deli will meet your needs - just be sure not to go at busy times!
(2)Deborah S.
Great NY style deli. I can always count on them for great matzo ball soup and a hot pastrami Reuben. The pickle bar is a nice touch. The decor is a total time warp--it's frozen in the 60's or something--but that's part of the charm. I have stopped there for carry out many times after long days at work. Sometimes, you just need some comfort food.
(4)Brian M.
Best New York-style Deli in DC -- hands down! This is evidenced by the fact that I challenge anyone to find smoked sable anywhere else in DC. Their smoked sable platter is fantastic, omelets are great, and pastrami is to die for! And for those that complained about curt wait staff -- that is more evidence that this is a real NY deli!
(5)Alcora W.
I know I am in the minority here, but I am always blown away by how bad the food and the service at Parkway Deli is ... With that said, I like taking the mac and cheese TO GO, and I do like the potato pancakes and cheese blintzes (regardless of how authentic they are). I find myself going back every couple of months because so many people in the neighborhood think it's so great, but I have never gotten anything other than what I mentioned above worth eating and no one I have ever brought with me has finished their meal. We've had rare burgers come when we ordered well-done and had big problems when we asked that it be cooked longer, we've had casseroles that were still frozen in the middle and I find that the descriptions of their specials are almost always misleading. After my last visit, I think I have given the Parkway Deli enough "second chances" and I just have to accept that some people know how to order the right things and I definately don't.
(1)Shawn H.
Always really busy and usually fantastic, this place is tucked away just a block of 410 between Chevy Chase and Silver Spring (closer to Silver Spring). It's not fast food, but it's worth stopping if you have time. Don't miss the pickles! Enter from the back lot.
(4)Geo N.
what a local dive - and I mean that with love. with a variety of nutty stuff - I'm a vegan, and I go there post swim practice with my non-vegan friends, and everyone leaves satiated. two words: pickle bar
(5)Sarah W.
Oh, Parkway. My family's default restaurant for dinner, lunch, breakfast...Delish deli food. Plus complementary pickle bar! Most things are very good, blintzes and FRIES are great, plus the reubens and burgers. Pastrami is quite tasty as well, though not as good as the pastrami you could get at at true NYC deli. Like everyone else has said, it's a Silver Spring institution, so you should pay a visit. The waitresses have been there for years and know how to treat a customer, so tip them generously!
(4)candy w.
Always fast seating, even when there is a line. Very quick food service and always great food. Love to go there with my family.
(5)Andrew P.
Great place to eat! I just moved from CA and have been looking for decent food in the area -- I think I've found my first regular place to eat in the DC area!
(5)CL R.
Yup- awesome food, great prices, weird old school atmosphere. Matzo ball soup is better than my own homemade chicken soup, which I hate to admit. Super chickeny, big chunks of carrots, tender matzo ball. Breakfast here is great. They pack you in, but it's efficient and friendly. Potato pancakes were dense and savory. Yay for pickle bar. Yay also for some of the best Ben and Jerry's selection in the freezer, in the store side, as well as Gifford's ice cream-- DC area's best.
(4)Kolomya K.
Dined here on a Sunday night at 5 p.m. and were seated immediately. One hour later, the place was packed. Service was friendly, if a little slow. The corned beef and pastrami sandwiches were "eh." That being said, our party hails from Brooklyn, The Bronx, Long Island, and NYC. Our group knows great deli, and these meats don't fall into that category. Rye bread lacked that nice, crisp crust. Latkes were large, but a hot, greasy, tasteless mess. One in the party had a hot dog, which was split grilled; she liked it. Little insects the size of fruit flies were all over and place and quite annoying. Makes me wonder about the cleanliness of the restaurant. Based on the sandwich mediocrity, we wouldn't return.
(2)Nick W.
Eating right now... delicious!
(5)Scott S.
The Parkway Deli & Restaurant can get very crowded at times, and the seating can be very close to your neighbors, but If you don't mind that, the food is excellent. The service there is always friendly and quick. I highly recommend the hash brown omelet for breakfast.
(5)J F.
I love this place! A pickle bar, tons of great deli sandwiches, wide selection of sides, and fabulous desserts. Plus Tammy! I love Tammy and she really helped kick my 2011 off right. I recommend the reuben - flip it over so it does not get too soggy. And the omelets are delicious. Onion rings fried right. *Plus* you get great unexpected stuff like meeting the oldest man in DC - 101 years old, enjoying his lunch, and looking great. You cannot do better.
(5)reuben j.
if dc were a city in the way, say, chicago is, a place like the parkway-though definitely good-would be less, not exotic, but rare....but, alas, it aint-so i treat this establishment the way the signifigant others of the incarcerated treat conjugal visits... in other words, i revel in their kasha varnishkas, latkes and/or matzoh ball soup.... so should you... look for me in that longggggg weekend line this place rightfully inspires.
(4)Penny Z.
THANK YOU PARKWAY DELI Jill & Carlos for making my day by letting me in from the pouring rain, & treating me to a welcome to the neighborhood coffee & bagel, BEFORE your 8am opening; & your coffee & fresh bagel were both AWESOME! I will be back during regular business hours and cannot wait to sample the full menu! So needless to say I was DEFINITELY very impressed by the scents and congeniality of the business and it's proprietors.
(5)Laura K.
I'm surprised at how expensive this place is. My sandwich cost over $8 and didn't come with any sides. My husband spent $3.55 on a side of mac n cheese that was really tiny. The fountain drinks were also about $3. The sandwiches were good but not that good. I doubt we will go back.
(3)Vivian K.
**vivian's 40$ a day ** welcome to silver spring, the up and coming area that's still slightly "coming" and close to the heart of DC ... so you wanna basic deli that has good food, low prices, a pickle bar, and wine and beer that you can buy on your way out?? parkway deli is the place to get it.. this jewish deli gives you large portions, salty pickles, tremendous onion rings and fries... i only wish this place was opened past 10... huhh huhhuhuh.. (doing that silly laugh that rachel ray does ).. i LLOOOOOVVVEEE delis, and the way these sandwiches are made.. it's just the cream of the crop when it comes to this area. (cue waitress to come by).. what do you recommend waitress? (she pretends like she doesn't know shes gonna be on tv even though she did her hair this morning and put on the fake tan).. .. oh hi, the best we got here is the chicken club sandwich .. (i check the price and say).. wow.. that sounds great! and for 7.95 i guess i can't beat that!! huhhh huuhuhuhhuh.. (dumb laugh again).. (she says) ... what'll have to drink? (i say) .. well, i guess i'll have the sweet tea.. man, oh man, i can't wait for my meal to start~!!! the pickle bar is an eclectic set of pickles, and veggies like baby corn from the can, a carrot raisin coleslaw, beets and cauliflower.. i guess since i'm hungry i'll just get a couple of pickles to snack on! (10 minutes later and uncomfortable stares from customers.....) (waitress comes by)... well, here's your chicken club sandwich, lemme know if you need anything else! (i say).. wow.. this is HUUUGE... and it smells gorgeous, as you can see there's plenty to eat on my plate, and for 7.95 i still have 30$ to spend on the rest of my day.. (take bite).. mmmmm.. mmm.. mmmm. .OOOHHH... it's soo good, you can taste the chicken, the canadian bacon, along with the cheese and the honey mustard all melting together... the fries are seasoned and that just makes everything even more complete... huh huh uhuhuh uh .. (dumb laugh again).. wow.. i might even haveta take this one to go!!! OTHER RECOMMENDATIONS: the reuben and the "meal in itself" sandwich is HUGE.. the french dip sandwich which is roast beef and au ju dipping sauce is good, slightly salty but good.. and the matza ball soup is awesome... you can seriously be satisfied for $10 or less with tip included.. the best part is on the way out there's beer and wine.. so you pick up your 12 pack or 3 bottles and head out !!

I like to think of this place as the Jewish Satriale's of Montgomery County. Growing up 1/2 Jewish in North Jersey I've had more than my share of Jewish cuisine, and this is by far the best I've had since moving to the Maryland / DC area. While I know it upsets a few people, I appreciate the fact that you can get non-kosher food here, since most kosher deli's (read: Max's) have a very limited selection. Parkway is very reasonably priced (4 star food for 2 star prices), and you can't really go wrong with anything on the menu, although my favorites are the matzo-ball soup and potato pancakes, which are actually better than my grandma makes. I also absolutely love the fact that this place is a restaurant and a deli / market. My only beef with the place are that take out can get a little hectic during the lunch rush and you need to check your order to make sure its right. Also, in a perfect world Parkway would be open later, after the bars close down so you wouldn't have to go to one of the 10,000 crap diners for a drunken 4th meal, but they are open very early and don't close 'till 10 which are pretty reasonable hours of operation.

I've been going to the Parkway Deli for years but never thought to write a review since it was kinda a neighborhood thing. Today, I took my 92-year old mother to Parkway Deli to share one of our fave menu items, the Nova Platter for 2. For $15.75, the platter comes with a MOUND of fresh nova lox, two toasted bagels, cream cheese, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, black olives, and capers, all on a bed of lettuce! Yummy! There is more than enough lox for two people. If you add in the "bottomless" cup of coffee and pickle bar with its OUTSTANDING selection of pickled items, like pickles, pickled tomatoes, and shredded carrots, this was quite a meal! Mom and I never leave hungry after enjoying the Nova Platter for 2. I tried a lox and bagel platter at another supposedly "kosher-style" deli in Fairfax, Virginia, last week, and that meal could not hold a candle to the DELISH Nova Platter for 2 at Parkway Deli. I also heard the matzo ball soup at Parkway is very good and others have enjoyed their deli sandwiches, but for real "Jewish soul food" like lox and bagels, the Parkway Deli can't be beat!
(4)Kate M.
I wanted to give Parkway 2 stars, but my boyfriend really enjoyed his meal, so it gets 3. I got a wrap that was already soggy by the time it landed on my table, and I could barely pick it up. By the time I was done with the first half of it, half the filling had fallen out onto my plate. I started on the second half, but by then it was so soggy I couldn't pick it up at all, and had to (try to) eat it with a fork and knife. I did not order a wrap so I could eat with a fork and knife. I suppose it was tasty enough, though. My boyfriend had the California BLT and he said it was delicious. Service was friendly and very fast, and most of the diners around us seemed to be really enjoying their meals. I'm guessing my incredibly disappointing meal was an exception to the rule. Bakery/deli section looked interesting and the front of the store had a sizable beer and wine selection. I'd go back and give it a second try since it's kind of on my way home from work, but if it weren't I probably wouldn't return.
(3)A B.
Parkway Deli is simply just good, straightforward, no-nonsense food. While I haven't sampled many of the "entrees", you can NEVER go wrong with the deli sandwiches or breakfast (available all day I might add). Favorite sandwich? The Delight - Hot pastrami with cheese, sauerkraut and russian dressing on rye. And don't miss out on the cup of Matzoh ball soup - bigger than a bowl at most other places. If you go late morning on the weekends, be prepared to wait. Although they move quickly, the place is packed. While the debate may rage eternal about the best reuben in the area, Parkway has earned it's spot as a neighborhood favorite for me. (p.s. I put two $ but it's really more like $8-15)
(5)Robert M.
Talk about a teflon. This place is teflon coated with bacon grease (shmaltz). You get better matzo ball soup at a Greek dinner in manhattan. Couldn't they be decent enough to make it kosher style? Don't they do enough business here to cure their own deli meats? Who has carpeting in a restaurant? Nasty. I rant, but for god's sake. Ok. I hear they have a decent bakery.
(2)Nadeem M.
Either I ordered the wrong thing or I had too high of expectations. For 4 stars though I was sorely disappointed. The veggie omelette was a sloppy, greasy mess. I could have got this quality food at a fast food place. Maybe the deli items are better but I won't know because I don't plan on returning here.
(1)Patrick R.
My girlfriend and I were regulars here for years before moving away. Amazingly friendly people with very consistent food. There's a reason there's always a line here on the weekends. We've lived away for four years now and still lament losing the Parkway Deli.
(5)Mark J.
I'll start with the positive; they have the best quality (nova and belly) lox in town. The worst: I found a piece of grey sponge (yes, cleaning sponge) in my Matzoh Ball Soup! The food overall is only mediocre. The potato pancakes and other fried or grilled items are quite greasy. The pickle bar is a nice feature, but I've had spoiled items on a few occasions - chose your items wisely. If you ask for lean corned beef, it really is quite lean. Finding supermarket-quality bread-like bagels at Jewish Deli gives you a clue this is not a great deli. Not terrible, just less than good overall.
(2)Tedra W.
I moved to Maryland from NYC . I looked high and low for a good even decent deli. Just as I was about to give up I found this place. The best salads and sandwiches in the D.C. area. I'm so happy that it's near my job!
(4)Liana K.
You walk in and see a wide selection of slightly old looking deli storefront, but slowly and bravely you walk on to see a whole sitting area as a resturant in the back of the store. You wait patiently to be seated not knowing whats to come. I read in amazement of all the options on the menu but being the critical Brooklyn Jew that I am, I decide on playing it safe with a egg white veggie omlette. Reasonably priced with fresh tomatos and mushrooms inside, I was happy and full so no crankiness for the rest of the 100 degree weather day.
(4)David M.
This place has been one of my old standbys for years!! The service is always friendly and the pastrami is always hot!!! Everything looks great coming out of the kitchen, but my personal favorite is the Delight sandwich-pastrami, meunster cheese, coleslaw and Russian dressing on grilled pumpernickel!! Delicious!!!
(4)John M.
OK, I'm definitely not a fan of deli's in general, but this place won me over. First things first, the service was fast, and the restaurant was full with a big line for tables! That's impressive! The food: Food was great. The sandwich that I had tasted really fresh and the meat was uniquely seasoned. It did not taste like normal bland deli meat, a sandwich you cannot make anywhere else. I got all the toppings (and so many to choose from!) that I wanted and they were delicious and fresh as well. French fries are really good, and the Matzoh Ball soup looks really appetizing.
(4)Chris C.
This place reminds me of a New York Diner. Simple tasty comfort food. The staff is friendly and the plates are big. Saturday mornings are busy & the wait is short...around 5-10 mins. That's it.
(4)John D.
When I first entered Parkway, it was like entering a speakeasy. There were groceries and wine, but no sign of food service. I looked around the storefront and wondered how long it would take to be seated given that I saw no tables. I was taken through a narrow hallway to the dining area, which was surprisingly spacious, as if the interior was larger than the exterior. I was excited at the prospect of eating dinner in the fourth dimension. Speaking of things being larger than the initially appear, the regular-sized menu had an intimidating amount of choices. I originally came to eat pancakes for dinner. That plan was derailed by the dinner options. Like I usually do at a restaurant, I looked at other peoples' dinners, trying to get the lay of the land. Everything looked delicious. I ended up with the French Dip sandwich, which was juicy and wonderful. I was surprised that I had to specifically order Provalone with the sandwich. Cheese is not part of the sandwich here, although most French Dip sandwiches I've had had cheese included. The lesson here is watch the details. In any case, the food was excellent. My ONLY complaint was that the fries were average. This was solved by dipping the fries into the Au Jus. Pro tip! It is perhaps a little soon to review a place based on one meal, but given the amount of choices, it will take a year of regular visits to get a good sample of everything they have to offer. The place is wonderful, and the service is only slightly less than wonderful. This is not a dig; the service was good, especially considering how busy the place was. It is definitely worth visiting. You may need to enter the place with a game plan. Otherwise, the menu may overwhelm you.

Matzoh balls are sinkers, rather than floaters, but I can't fault someone for a difference of preference (read my Goldberg's Bagels review and apply the bagel debate to matzoh balls, then crank the intensity to 11). It's historically a Jewish deli. Legend has it that Jewish mobsters used to run numbers games and break bread out the back room. Fortunately, there's no trace of a criminal element anymore, so you're safe. The menu goes way beyond a mere Jewish deli. Steak and cheese, chicken wraps, huge burgers, in addition to typical Jewish deli food, i.e. corned beef or pastrami on rye, knishes, and smoked whitefish and salmon. Desserts will drop you into a deep sleep if you finish them in one sitting. Don't have time to wait and/or sit? Order to go, it's pretty fast, even when you don't call it in first. The deli is in the front, restaurant is in the back. There's often a line during dinner, but that's just a clear sign that the food is good. A lot of the people standing in line have been coming there for years, so that tells you something. It tells you Waitresses and waiters know the extensive menu in their sleep, ask them anything. Tell them your life story if you want to. Hosts and hostesses are friendly and efficient. I prefer the old ambiance to the newer purple walls, but not everyone likes to eat under dim light, I guess. Oh well. Ask for the meatball sub or chili even if you don't see it on the menu.

Hands down my favorite place in silver spring to go to for breakfast, probably since I was a kid. Consistently good food and service. I'd be wary of weekend brunch as they do tend to get very busy, but for a gal like me whose weekend is Wednesday and Thursday, it's nice to be able to go get a sit down breakfast at a place that's not a.) fast food b.)a chain restaurant or c.) the hell on earth that is the Silver spring Tastee Diner. The latkes and blintzes are my favorite, and their Belgian waffle is pretty great too. I can't say much about their lunch or dinner menu because I'm always here in the morning, although I have gotten their matzoh ball soup before and it is everything I ever wanted it to be. I've also gotten birthday cakes from here and they were all delicious and reasonably priced. While we're talking dessert, they also sell pretty much every B&J's flavor, which is pretty sweet.
(5)Rod M.
This used to be a great deli. That is until the night I dined there and got terrible food poisoning. It was actually staph infection food poisoning. I was violently ill. The worst 3 days of my life. The worst part of the whole experience was I called about 5 times to talk to a manager and the staff would tell me one is not there. They were reluctant to take a message and when they did after I explained the seriousness of the matter they offered no apologies. Needless to say no one ever contacted me. This is the worst customer service experience I have ever had. I understand food poisoning can happen and if someone had contacted me or even shown the least bit of concern I would probably rate this experience differently. Avoid this place at all costs.
(1)P C.
Pro: Good service. Great food (omelette, mac and cheese, chili dog). Big portions. Very good hash browns. Con: Might need to look around for parking, even in the back lot.
(5)Sarah C.
Decent food. It's not the best diner I've been to, but it's pretty good. The people who work there are really nice. I wish it was a better ambiance though.
(4)Tina M.
So many rave reviews, and you can bet there was a long wait to get in. But was it worth it? Food: Mine was good, but my boyfriend was unimpressed with his. Service: The restaurant was hectic with people running around to handle tables, but for as long as we had to wait (we were told 10-12 minutes, and it was twice that), our waitress was in no rush to turn our table. It was not relaxing at all. I may go back, but for carry out only, or make sure it's not at a regular meal time.
(3)Mocha C.
I haven't eaten at the resturant, but I have had their turtle cheesecake a few times and it is divine. The little prick that works the cash register is another story. EVERY time I come, he doesn't greet me, just rings me up and throws my stuff back over the counter at me. He is BEYOND rude. After going in there today and being treated like cow caca, I will never set foot in this hole again, cheesecake be damned!
(3)Caitlin C.
Two words: Pumpkin pancakes. Two more words: Absolutely amazing. Little did I know I had driven by this place countless times but failed to ever stop. It was only after trying to find a decent breakfast place in the city (sorry, but The Diner gets a little old) that we found this place of awesomeness. The hashbrown omelette is also phenom, with the hashbrowns being perfectly crispy. Mmm I get hungry just thinking about it! I wish I had tried the pastires, which looked incredible. Oh well, there's always next time.
(5)Aditi G.
I LOVE this place. Let's get the bad stuff out of the way first: it is TOO POPULAR. On a Saturday morning the line will be out into the pastry shop, but when you get to the line by the kitchen there are these goofy posters with fun pictures games you can play to pass the time. I have never gotten a dish that I have not been amazed by. I've gotten Belgian waffles, lox and bagels, omelettes, crabcake sandwiches, you name it. The sides are even good--I'm striving to figure out how they get that potato salad so dang good. I love seafood, so smoked salmon is always a yummy choice. There's a free pickle bar, which I abuse before our waiter gets to us. There are always tons of families and kids there so prepare to have a noisy but fun time. One day when I'm rich, I'm coming here for all my Saturday brunches.
(5)Rob H.
Very rich food. Don't go here if you are on a diet, if you aren't on a diet then chow down. I've eaten here several times for lunch and a couple of times for dinner. Service and food quality are always great. It has a friendly atmosphere and the sandwiches are huge. Lots to choose from. Parkway never lets us down.
(4)Mary K.
Thanks Yelpers!!! Definitely helped me find a favorite place to recommend for breakfast. It is only about 1.5 miles away from my house so I am going to walk here next time I decide to have brunch out. I got the potato pancakes and the blitzes with apple sauce and blueberry sauce. It was pretty good, but I think what made the blitzes and the potato pancake pop out is the sauce that accompanies it. Their applesauce and blueberry sauce is yum. Blitzes are filled with cottage cheese, potato pancakes are too thick for my liking. My partner got the french toast, which he claims are some of the best he has ever had (I told him I am no longer making any french toast anymore!!). He also ordered a side of eggs and Canadian bacon (salty). Had a piece of the french toast with blueberry and it was pretty good. Next time I am going to try one of their sandwiches, they definitely look good. Wait staff is pretty nice and food price is very reasonable.

2 stars = "meh. I've experienced better." That pretty much sums it up. I really want to love Parkway, it's literally on the end of our street. Unfortunately, the food just doesn't measure up to the real delis of my youth in NY, or even the pseudo-real delis of my young adulthood in Florida. I will say, the chocolate rugelach are the bomb, and always a go-to item to pick up when craving a chocolatey dessert.
(2)navin j.
FAIL!! Epic fail: I asked for toasted bagel lightly buttered, jelly on the side. To go. Just opened my brown bag to find a lukewarm, pale untoasted bagel, no butter. They did ask (3 times) if I wanted cream cheese so I guess if it's an unusual request they just don't know what to do. Bagel is barely so so. 2 stars because friendly place, decent coffee and there is quite the assortment of 4 different fancy jams and jellies in the bag.

We went to Parkway Deli during the heat wave/power outage. They gave us a pretty long list of things that were not available, not sure if they'd just gotten their power or if there was a problem with their suppliers. My first choice, hot turkey sandwich, was on the not available list but I was able to find a back-up. Our granddaughter opined that she wished we could order a bowl of pickles, which reminded me that they have a pickle bar available. I like that their menu features a lot of good comfort food, hot turkey sandwich, fried chicken at dinner, etc. and what we ordered was good. I ended up with a turkey burger, husband had falafel wrap and granddaughter ordered a Philly cheesesteak. Service was friendly and efficient, especially since the restaurant was crowded. We had been at Parkway years ago and I was reminded that one of the reasons we haven't been back sooner is that, unless you snag a booth, the tables are pretty crowded together. As part of the ambiance of a restaurant we prefer not to be sitting shoulder to shoulder with our neighbors. We'll probably go back again, but if it was a little more spacious we would definitely be regulars.
(3)Lynndolyn M.
The Parkway Deli is a great restaurant for breakfast. The food is good, the service is great and the prices are reasonable. The menu has many great selections from pancakes and eggs to fish and grits. This restaurant is a great place for a breakfast meeting or a lunch or dinner date. Lynndolyn M

Get here early or expect to wait in line for a seat on Saturday and Sunday morning. Leave happy because the food is great. It's cramped but the staff are very friendly and you can always get take out. Great selection of pastries and cakes. Try the smoked whitefish.
(4)Stephanie S W.
Breakfast is the thing to go here for. I'm writing this update because I'm not a very big fan. I had a lox omelette - I could have done without the eggs, but the salmon was great, came with AWESOME hashbrowns and delicious bagel & cream cheese. Good coffee, decent prices and the place was packed!
(5)Bernadine L.
When I first walked in I swear that I heard the sky opened and the angels sing!! When you walk in the front part is a small conveniences store. But tuck around the last aisle was a display of the yummiest looking desserts. My eyes went straight toward the red velvet cake. First, let's talk Turkey. I order the Turkey Rueben. Awesome! The sandwich had a generous amount of real sliced Turkey enough for two sandwiches. The dressing was very good and tangy just like I like it. The sauerkraut was a generous portion. Half of the sandwich was plenty to arrive to stuffdom land. But of course I had to stuff my pie hole with a slice of that red velvet cake. I didn't regret ordering at all. It was very good. But, I ended up taking most of that home also. Service is quick and the tables are hidden in the back of the deli. I really enjoyed my lunch I will definitely come back again

AWESOME Brunch/Deli restaurant! I didn't even know that this shopping center existed. It is close to an elementary school in a residence area. It gets crowded during the weekend and lines are passing the Deli. It also has a bakery and food to go area. The restaurant is small but with a variety of food. It also has options for Jewish dishes. The service was fast and attentive. Our waitress was very knowledgeable of the menu and even recommended popular dishes. Despite the long waiting lines, the place is worth the wait. I will definately come back.

When I lived up near Silver Spring I made sure I got the eggs benedict and corned beef hash at least once a week ! It was to die for ! The food is always good and the service is always friendly

I love Parkway Deli & Restaurant so much! Their menu is offering a lot of different kinds of meal. While looking at their menu, you would want to try it all because it looks like it's all delicious. You would find anything that your heart desires here in Parkway Deli & Restaurant. The place is nice, well organized, and clean. The waiter is friendly, patient and very fast in serving. I ate breakfast here and I first try their soups to put some hot stuffs on my tummy first. So for their soup, I tried Matzoh Ball Soup, made from a rich chicken stock with tender chicken pieces, onions, celery, carrots & egg noodles, served with large matzoh balls. Wow, I loved their soup! It was my first time having that kind of soup and I'm loving everything about it. Then after having soup, I thought of trying their breakfast specials. So I tried their Whole Grilled Rainbow Trout, served with 3 eggs, hash browns & toast, English muffin or bagel & cream cheese. OMG!! I was so full and satisfied with my choice. I'm just so happy with everything. Everything is fresh and served hot. Then for my beverage I had hot chocolate with whipped cream. I felt so happy while drinking this. :) After I saw their menu, I planned to eat here for lunch and dinner to try some of their meals for lunch and dinner. I'm so excited. This place deserves my 5 stars. :)

Excellent food and service! The breakfast is a standout - great bagels and eggs and hash browns. Highly Recommended!

Great reuben sandwich. Got the family feel of a new york deli. The desserts were mediocre but the sandwiches are made perfectly. Fresh sliced corned beef. Man and cheese was blah but the bbq beef mafe up for it

I was raised in Brooklyn, and all my early jobs were working in the stores and delis around Pitkin and Belmont Avenues in Brooklyn. I've also spent several months living and exploring Israel. Why am I talking about this? Because I think those life experiences give me a solid background in opining about Jewish delis, and in my opinion, the DMV's Parkway Deli is amongst the best on this planet. Not only do they make excellent Jewish fare, but I also like that no matter when you get there on a weekend there's always a huge line (I'm not sure why I like this, but it is reassuring), and that the crowd is so diverse, covering all four races and countless ethnicities; clearly the quality of the food draws all hungry facets of mankind. Yesterday I ordered my usual: matzoh ball soup and the deli twins (a mound of corned beef and a mound of pastrami on two onion rolls with a side). My wife ordered a large salad and a side of spinach (that's why she's so skinny). When the delicious soup arrived, I noticed that they had a new set of serving dishes; more modern and square; I even complimented the waiter on how cool they looked. As I began to eat my soup and my wife her salad, we both noticed something: the new dishes were quite a bit smaller than the old dinnerware! I'm not talking 10% smaller, but maybe 25 - 35% smaller. Feh! And I will admit that the old soup sizes were quite generous, and the deli twins were the same size, but it kinda bummed me out a little that my favorite dish in the whole joint is now a lot less soup for the same amount of sheckels. I'll still visit every few weeks - I can't resist! PS - If you are a carrot cake buff (like I am), The Parkway Deli has one of the best carrot cakes in this Universe.

Solid pancakes and good eggs. It can be busy and parking is limited but worth the wait. The Birch Beer is excellent with free refills!

If you go for breakfast, you should get the "Hashbrown omlette". It's amazing. The service is always prompt, the hostess is tough and while you see a crazy line, if you're a smallish party, you get seated pretty quickly. I love the Parkway!
(5)Rob J.
Our swim team comes here every Saturday morning in the winter. It is fast and filling after a long swim. The breakfasts won't leave you hungry and the pickle bar is a great appetizer.
(4)Bridget Q.
Love the parkway deli!! Everything on the menu is soooo good. The only bad thing I have to say is that because it is so good it is pretty crowded most of the time. Tried to go there for lunch today and could not get a seat so we got carry out which is fine but it would have been nice to sit. If you do order carry out it's typically ready to go in 15 minutes. Either way it's worth checking out.

I drove from Northern Virginia to try out this deli based on the good reviews I've heard both on Yelp and from others. After living in New York City and experiencing some of the most amazing delis, I wasn't expecting to be blown away but to at least enjoy myself. Unfortunately, it was completely disappointing. Let's start with the pickle bar. In a small restaurant, how does it make sense to navigate through the narrow tables to go up and back to get a pickle? It would be much more efficient for the servers to bring you an assortment when you are seated. But honestly, I'll let it slide because the halfs were about the best thing we had. Matzo Ball soup: lukewarm, noodles were heavy and thick, matzo ball was dense and grainy - it tasted like straight matzo meal . Latkes: ok, but they were deep fried. Not my cup of tea. but you really can't screw up latkes Corned Beef: again, lukewarm corned beef. It was lean and thinly sliced, but was slightly off. plus, they don't offer you a "lean" option so i guess that's just what you get. Fries: meh. but then again, i'm a fan of large steak fries and these were sorta like burger king fries. Maybe it was an off day for them or me, but this was sub-par. Wouldn't suggest going out of your way for this AT ALL, and if you do live near it, would suggest driving into the city for Wagshal's instead.

I love this place... Great breakfast... Very busy on the weekends...

Nice menu. Good food. Reasonably priced. Happy they had pickle bar open in the am. Pastrami and corn beef was very good. Had a decent line for breakfast, but still moved pretty quick.

Even though I was doing the walk of shame in her University of Maryland sweatshirt, by taking this shiksa to brunch at Parkway Deli, it was virtually guaranteed that she'd get even more action on the third date. I wish more eating establishments would enforce the same seating policy Parkway does ... hostess Tammy (who totally had a hot Cher JILF thing going on for her) deftly whisked us into the 'complete party' line, where we only had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated on a packed Sunday morning. Oh, the menu! I couldn't decide. I had my heart set on the chopped chicken liver, but everything else looked so good. I was torn - do I reveal my former fat girl self to my date, who had just commented on my 'sweet body' the night before, by ordering TWO entrees? What's a girl to do? Fortunately, Tammy again saved the day and offered to bring me a sample of the chopped chicken liver to satisfy my taste buds, freeing me up to order something else. The 'sample' was a pretty generous portion that I orgasmed my way through. Thankfully, my date was a vegetarian, because there was no way in hell I was going to share. The HUGE hash brown omelette proved to be way too big, even for this size queen; I could barely finish half of it, even though it was so good. By the time the check came, I was totally spent, exhausted, and needed a shower. If every future date includes a trip to Parkway, I might be keeping this one around for awhile.

We visited this place because it was listed in the February 2010 issue of Washingtonian Magazine in an article called "Best of Silver Spring" [MD]. Score one for the Washingtonian because this place makes the grade! This place is in a small strip shopping center. We got there around 5 pm on a Friday. The parking lot was full but luckily, a couple was walking to their car. All we had to do was wait. This gave us a moment to check out the Chinese food carryout and bike shop sitting next to Parkway. A minute later and we're parking. Parkway truly is a deli and a restaurant. A full deli is in the front part of the place. It has coolers of soft drinks and beer, two rows of wine and groceries and area of hot prepared foods. You walk to the back of the deli and down a short hallway to the restaurant. There's a "wait to be seated" sign and servers running about. You'd think you walked off the street into a diner! But, a diner with a complimentary pickle bar! Now that's something you don't see very day. Now my wife and I both like pickles so the pickle bar was a plus. The next plus was a large and interesting menu selection. When my wife and I have a conversation on what we will order WHEN WE COME BACK ... we have a winner! The thing that puts this place over the top is a dessert menu! (Big smile!) This place has a dessert menu with 19 different cakes & pies ... plus ice cream and a selection of pastries. Need I say more? Now to be clear. The "restaurant" in Parkway Deli & Restaurant is really a diner. The food was prepared quickly. The prices are cheap. The food and dessert selection is large and don't forget the pickle bar. It's a diner. But a very nice diner and the food was very good. We're looking forward to going back for breakfast! Try this place!

Just moved to Silver Spring and was looking for a good Deli/Diner. Had breakfast here and it was excellent. Service was very good and the food was perfect. I had the French toast and eggs but the rest of the menu looked very appetizing too. I will be going back.

Was really excited about this place, but disappointed in a number of areas. A $6 Grilled Cheese is pretty ridiculous, if I need a place to start. But my companion's meal was tasty and priced correctly, so maybe there are just a few anomalies on the menu in terms of value. What really concerned me with Parkway was the service. I can take slow service if it's good service. I understand that waitstaff can be overworked, so if I have to wait longer to see my waiter or waitress, I'm sometimes perturbed but never upset. But what upset me about Parkway's slow service is how rude it was. When our waitress came to our table, she never even took the time to stand in front of it. She would place items on the edge, sometimes at stretch, and then dash off to another table. We would have to raise our voices or stand up and follow her to get her attention. There seemed to be no support staff to help our overworked waitress either -- she had to fetch drinks, refills, waters, condiments, most of which we didn't receive since she hardly stopped by.

NyC style diner offering good variety with Friendly service! They know pastrami, good deli meats and their pickles and other items are simply good! Crowded on wknds for brunch!

This is a GREAT deli -- Jewish or otherwise, the food is wonderful! Had lunch on Monday at the Parkway Deli. There wasn't a line, so it seems as if the long lines, that people report, are reserved for weekends. My lunch partner and I were seated right away. We hit the pickle bar first. I wasn't a fan of the sauerkraut (too bitter and vinegar-y), but the sweet pickles and red cabbage were wonderful! For lunch, I had the matzo ball soup and a Reuben. Both were EXCELLENT. I don't know much about matzo balls, but I know chicken soup, and this one was GREAT. Chunks of vegetables and chicken, and a great, big matzo. One warning -- order the cup if you are having something else to eat, because the bowl is a large portion. The Reuben sandwich was GREAT! Portions are somewhat smaller than 4th Street Deli in Philadelphia, but still substantial. I highly recommend this restaurant. It's in a weird location, but worth it. I'm a FAN!
(4)Brenda F.
I had breakfast here one morning and I would just like to say the the eggs and potato hash were very bland. There menu has a lot to choose from and the prices are decent. I was not to fond of the breakfast menu. I have had better elsewhere. My boyfriend loved the place and was pleased that there was knish on the menu. He has not been able to find it here in the DMV area. I will definitely be going back to try there lunch menu and maybe I will give it a 4 star.
(3)Paul L.
This is a decent place for weekend breakfast/brunch. You may have to wait a bit to get a table, but the food is worth it. Lunch and dinner food is just OK.
(3)John R.
I ate here almost 12 hours ago and I'm still kind of full, that's a testament to Parkway Deli and our brunch extravaganza. Best potato latkes ever. Cruncy outside, served with sour cream and crushed apples, I was ready to just scarf them all down and call it a day. Reuben sandwich, best corned beef in the DC area. The beautifully tender, it was the kind of sandwich you end up wearing, but I was all smiles. The bagel and lox? The lox were sweet, smooth a bit salty and silky sushi grade salmon. If I were to have a complaint, it would be that the tomatoes weren't sliced paper thin, and that sadly, there were no capers (although I could swear the menu said capers). A lovely pickle bar with all sorts of pickles. Oh, and I almost forgot the egg cream... Sweet and satisfying but at the same time refreshing. A perfect balance between milk, chocolate syrup and soda water. As we were leaving, the couple at the table next to us found out we were Parkway virgins and insisted we couldn't leave without trying the matzo ball soup, they even offered to buy us each a serving to take home with us! :) I swore I'd be back to try it, and I will. Well worth the hike out from NoVa, I only wish Parkway were closer...

This is one our favorites place to eat with the family , love the very berry smoothie
(4)Johnny A.
The corned beef pastrami sandwich lunch special is fantastic! Wasn't impressed though that it doesn't come with a side, after all it's a $9.25 sandwich. A side of fries and a coke later and you're in the $20 territory. Having said that, the food was excellent and so was service. The clientele, on the other hand, was an amusing mix of "aging" hipsters and hippies, senior crowd together with some government folks, which made for an interesting people watching lunch!

Sassy servers, free pickle bar and amazing bakery makes this place a favorite for me and my friends. Order this: Matzo ball soup chopped liver "the delight" chocolate eclair any of the above will make you a fan for life. Believe me. Fluffy matzos, savory liver, hot and amazing pastrami delight sandwich and KILLER eclair... oh lord. looks like I'll be going to Parkway soon...

I'm house-sitting in Silver Spring this weekend, so I of course got on Yelp to see what my eating options would be. All the positive reviews of Parkway Deli plus the fact that it's only a couple blocks from where I'm staying got me really excited... especially since at least one review compared it to Katz's in NYC. Not that I expected it to actually come close to Katz's, but I figured that if it was even half as good I would be completely satisfied. I don't know what the person was smoking who compared it to Katz's Deli, cuz the two aren't even in the same universe. Parkway isn't terrible, but it's not amazing either. And eating Katz's pastrami is basically akin to going to heaven. So for any misplaced New Yorkers who got their hopes up that this little Jewish deli might satisfy your cravings for home, I hate to be the one to tell you this, but it WILL NOT. I ordered the "Delight" sandwich, which is like a Reuben except with pastrami and muenster cheese. It wasn't bad, but I guess I just had my expectations set entirely too high, since the pastrami tasted like run-of-the-mill grocery store pastrami. Also, I ordered the sandwich "to go" rather than eating there, and I think that was a mistake, because in the 10 minutes between when I left there and when I ate it, the bottom slice of bread got really soggy. Another reason I would recommend eating there is that I hadn't realized that the free pickle bar that I was so excited about is really for dine-in customers only. I never actually saw it, so I can't comment otherwise, but I love me some pickles (I've been known to eat an entire jar of Claussen dills in a day), and I was disappointed that the bar was nowhere to be seen. My boyfriend ordered the open faced brisket sandwich and said he definitely wouldn't get it again. He and I also took home a slice of key lime pie and one of tres leches cake. The key lime pie was honestly one of the worst I've ever had, but the tres leches was really yummy. Overall, I can see why this place remains popular- it has lots of options, some of which aren't found in many sandwich shops in D.C. But the food just isn't that special... which I'm unfortunately beginning to think is the general trend around these parts.

I really had a wonderful time here. a dear family friend surprised us as we were unpacking boxes at our new house and said that she had a great "neighborhood deli" to turn us on to. having moved from LA, the land of deli institutions like Canter's, Langer's, Nate and Al's, and Jerry's... i was skeptical. once we arrived i was very, very plesantly surprised. the place if "for reals" old school but in a good way. they have a nice, modest area in the back for sit down eating where you are served by friendly staff and a free "pickle/antipasto" station where you can load up on any combination of beets and pickles and peppers of all sorts. In the front you have a traditional "retail deli" where you can get take out or choose from a great selection of traditional Jewish Deli fare. we sat down and i had the pastrami/corned beef reuben special. awesome in it's simplicity and straight forward execution. it may not be in the Langer's category, but i doubt i can do much better around these parts. in general everyone was happy with their food and i look forward to returning to try some of their other offerings and partake of the retail section of the establishment. this place really is going to make me miss LA a little less when i have a "traditional deli" jones. Thank you Parkway! i will be there again soon. 4.5 stars.

It is no secret that I love salted cured meats. Pastrami? Yes please! Corned Beef? Of Course!! But there is something magical that happens when these delicious treats are combined into a hot sandwich. The Parkway Deli makes GREAT hot sandwiches. The Reuben, the 1/2 Corned Beef and 1/2 Pastrami Reuben, and the "Delight" are my favorites. I mean - large piles of meat with melted cheese, dressing, sauerkraut or cole slaw on grilled bread??? Nothing better! I have witnessed other people eating amazing looking sandwiches and entrees, but have not been able to tear myself away from my faves. The deli has a front area where you can order Meats/Cheeses, Prepared Foods, Sweets, Drinks and other items. Don't let the brisk carryout business and small tables out front distract you from the fact that there is a full restaurant in the back! Walk past the cases of food and the kitchen, and you will find a large, efficiently run dining room FULL of people. NOTE - Once you are seated, be prepared to order quickly - the staff is busy, and it may be a little while before they circle back to you! This can be tricky since the large menu is full of tempting dishes. Never fear if you miss your first opportunity to order... once you have made your selection - there is a self-service Pickle Bar that is a happy distraction while you wait for your server to circle back. Other menu items of interest include hot-tub sized bowls of Matzo Ball Soup, and rotating specials (roast chicken, brisket, etc) which you are sure to enjoy... But as you may have guessed... I recommend getting the REUBEN!
(4)Eva G.
How do I love thee!?!? I really cannot count the ways! The Matzoh Ball Soup, the latkes, the pickles... I love it all. One of Silver Spring's treasures, right along with Cubanos and Mandalay! Don't go there for the ambience, go there because it is a fabulous deli with everything a deli should have. Corned Beef sandwiches, knishes and chopped liver should you be so inclined! They also have an impressive looking dessert counter which may be worth checking out! But go and try the matzoh ball soup and you will be hooked. I swear!
(5)Angela M.
Ok, so many times it looks like a bridge convention in here, but it's a nice sit down place where the pie is delicious. And who doesn't like pie? Especially lemon cream pie. Ohhhh. Yessss. And the complimentary pickle bar is rockin'. Can't say no to free sauerkraut and pickles and beets. No not me. And they repainted the place so it looks more modern and added so much more seating. It doesn't really look right with all the dark wood, but the turquoise and periwinkle are lovely colors. I take it back, it looks more like a chess convention inside than a bridge convention. I like their options for food here, although the food is just decent, imho. I had matzo ball soup which was edible but not amazing. That's why I ordered the lemon cream pie - now that was good.
(3)Lisa H.
I have been here twice because the first time the food was just okay and I wanted to give it a second try. The food is just okay, nothing special at all.

A little off the beaten path for lunch from downtown Silver Spring, I didn't discover Parkway Deli until I was watching football with my friend Ken. This place is basically directly across from his apartment on Grubb Rd., and he listed it first amongst the food options we had for the big game. But he really gave me no choice once he told me this place was featured on the Food Network. At the very least, I would have a very Yelp-able experience. First of all, the staff here are super cool. We didn't just come in and place our orders, we had conversations with everyone I met. It was mainly football related, but I still appreciated it. My friend got the BBQ sandwich, I got the Reuben, each with an order of fries to go. (Plus two twelve packs for the game. Nice beer selection here.) My Reuben was so overstuffed I felt like a contestant on Man vs. Food. Man won. It was huge, and salty, and juicy, and somehow the bread held up against this beast of a sandwich. The fries were also great. I haven't been back to Parkway since, but it is subliminally calling me. A couple things I need to try: the complimentary pickle bar, and the eggplant fries. Mmmm. But besides the food, Parkway is a Silver Spring institution complete with friendly people, a fun laid-back atmosphere, and it's brimming over with that NYC/Jewish deli vibe. Like the dentist on Seinfeld that converted to Judaism for the jokes, maybe I will convert for the sandwiches.
(4)Teresa M.
I love Parkway. I've been going there for years. It's comfort food, very well done. Everyone, regardless of age, will find something they'll love on the menu. I also find it a good place when I'm eating alone. Great food, great staff. Highly recommend!
(5)Sandy W.
A real Jewish deli. Fantastic.
(4)Jonathan P.
This is a classic institution of a deli. there is a pickle bar and it is glorious. Portions are huge and the prices are definitely more than fair.
(3)Thomas W.
This is the closest thing to a NY deli that you will find in the DC Metro area. It is hard to believe a little deli hidden in Rock Creek park could serve such wonderful food. A Pastrami, Corned Beef, or any deli sandwiches are wonderful. Do not miss the pickle bar if you are dining here. The breakfast on the weekend is wonderful, but be prepared to wait in a long line. Dinner entrees like meatloaf are good but not outstanding. The place could use a makeover, but is you need to get your deli fix before your next trip to New York this place will fit the bill.
(3)Nicholas T.
For a restaurant in a deli, definitely as good as it gets. I've been here at least a half a dozen times and even when they are busy - and they are extremely busy on the weekends - the waitresses still produce a ready smile and friendly but unforced conversation. Food is on par with what you'd expect and always consistent. Coffee could be better, but it's certainly not bad - and is always hot and plentiful. For those of you into this sort of thing, they have a free pickle bar. Weird, I know, but apparently people love it.
(5)Miriam W.
My sense of direction is perhaps not the most excellent. Actually, sometimes it's rather dreadful. Is this a plea for you to get me a GPS device for Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa? Well, not exactly, BUT if you were to decide to be so generous I wouldn't refuse (in fact, I might be elated)! Now, traveling from northwest DC to Silver Spring, MD looked rather straightforward on the map; the majority of the route merely required me to stay on 16th street. And at not even 8:00 in the morning I was heading in reverse of most everyone else on the road. I loaded up Google maps with the Parkway Deli's address and hopped in the 'vo. Leave it to me to manage to get lost about a block from my destination! As I was headed down a residential street (in the opposite direction of the Parkway) I saw a man in his driveway. I rolled down the window and asked him for help. Turns out he is a fan of the Parkway and was headed in that direction and suggested I follow him. (Just another example of the superb friendliness of Washingtonians!) In rather short order I was at the Parkway where Wendy was waiting for me in the parking lot. We went inside and ordered a couple hash brown omelets. This tasty egg dish left me wondering why every place doesn't do hash brown omelets. The pair plus coffee and tea cost just $20 and our server Mary Anne was super sweet and attentive. I need to get back to the Parkway to sample the corned beef, latkes and the matzoh ball soup. And maybe on my next visit I'll manage to navigate my way there all by myself on the very first try.
(4)Jessie M.
Predicatable and good. Tried to take dad to Ruth's Chris for Dad's Day 2 yrs in row. He chose Parkway each time. Would add one more star but a couple of the workers behind the counter of take out need customer svc training.
(4)Stacie and Robert B.
We like this place! Awesome prices for not only GOOD food but also GREAT prices. His pick: Reuben Her pick: Fried Chicken They have a pickle bar! If you like pickles, this is the place to go. You aren't stuck with just one type of pickle. You can choose from at least 4 different types and its free with your meal. Just go up and get what you'd like. I've heard their matzah ball soup is great as well. We've yet to try it but we will soon! We're fans of this place.
(4)Hank P.
New Yorker here...Parkway Deli is a true New York deli from their sandwiches to their pickle bar, to their prepared food and desserts behind the counter. The pastries are great and you can get real black and white cookies, not imitation ones! Been here many times and always delicious. Prices are reasonable too. It is crowded and it doesn't feel like the cleanest place (after all what NY deli does?), but that shouldn't stop you from enjoying this famous local institution.
(5)Scot W.
An amazing New York style deli without having to hop on Amtrak. This place has great sandwiches, fantastic sides, a delicious breakfast and a complimentary pickle bar. Their desserts are pretty solid, too, although that's not the draw for me. It feels like eating at Carnegie or a less touristy version of Katz. Great stuff, all around.

After a very short red-eye flight into IAD (just a hair over four hours hardly seems long enough to be a red-eye flight), I drove to Silver Spring to have an early breakfast with Miriam W! Luckily I was equipped with GPS and made it there with no problem at all (though I clearly didn't have a good enough sense of direction to help Miriam). I arrived at Parkway at a little before 8 a.m., and I was surprised by the number of people lingering and waiting for the restaurant to open (in their cars of course). At 8 a.m. on the dot, the doors opened and folks piled out of their cars and into the restaurant. When Miriam W. arrived, we were seated quickly in the rear of the building (I was slightly thrown off by the entry way which was the real deli portion - cold case filled with meats, shelving filled with chips, etc.). I hadn't had a chance to check out the Yelp reviews of Parkway, but one item immediately jumped out to me - the hash brown omelet. Um, hash browns and bacon wrapped in egg? Oh, hell yeah! Miriam W. confirmed that it was the menu item of choice on Yelp. :-) The omelet was delish and the coffee was strong (and the waitress came frequently to fill up my coffee mug). The waitress seemed a little curt when we first arrived, but she must have been overwhelmed by the initial rush - by the end of the meal, she was chatting it up with me when she discovered I was from out of town, telling me about her most recent trips, etc., etc. Nice folks! Breakfast was very reasonably priced (thanks, Miriam!). One negative note: I would've expected the restrooms to be pretty clean first thing in the morning, but the restrooms were a little yicky. I can't speak to the authenticity of this as a Jewish deli (it obviously does serve pork...as in my hash brown omelet), but super yummy for breakfast!

Delicious, delicious, delicious. Especially love the ruben and the delight.
(5)L T.
Great service, decent servings of good food.

All u can eat free pickle bar! Rock on. Don't order anything that isn't deli like. Sticky floors, attitudes in the front store. As old as it gets for the area's local Deli's. Still worth going !
(3)Greg S.
I work only a mile from here and pick up lunch frequently. I have tried many things on their menu and so far it has all been great. If you are in the area and have not tried it I highly recommend you go, but allow some time if you are eating there. Always a line at lunch time.
(4)L. S.
Parkway Deli is a great deli! You can't get authentic deli food like this anywhere in DC. The reubens, latkas, and pickle bar are always a treat. The place is small and can be crowded, but the food comes out fast and the servers are attentive. I love it!
(5)Laura B.
If you used to love the "Deli Twins", don't order them anymore. You WILL be disappointed, guaranteed. They are no longer twins, as twins technically means two, but rather just one lame sandwich now, cut in half. The corned beef half was OK---although nothing like it used to be. You are getting a lot less meat now. The pastrami half had even less meat and it was stringy and fatty---definitely a lower quality beef than on previous visits. We both ordered the "Deli Twins" and we were both quite disappointed. You will also notice that you are getting half as many fries, too. Funnily enough though---the price is still the same, if not higher. The name of this menu item should be changed to "just some lame sandwich, the portion size being half of what is used to be". Not sure that we'll ever bother to go back, even though we were fans for years. If they are skimping on this menu item, it is likely they are skimping on others. With so many dining choices in our area, why bother risking it again? Note to the Parkway Deli, please change the name of your lame sandwich so no other unsuspecting customers (who previously loved this item) order it and are equally disappointed. As we were getting ready to leave, a man sitting next to us got his "Fake Deli Twins" and had the same perplexed look on his face when the waitress set "it" and not "them" down in front of him. Our server explained that they were having problems getting the smaller onion rolls, etc., but we don't really care. You can get someone to bake the rolls for you. Of that I am certain. We weren't really interested in hearing excuses. It seemed as though we weren't the first people she had given this excuse to either. As you will see from my June review, the Deli Twins were still rockin' then. Now, not so much. We definitely won't find ourselves "going back again and again".

I love this place. They have great food, at a reasonable price, and they give a lot of food. I like to get sides to go and eat them throughout the week with whatever meat I cook to save time. There is a also a store with a lot of different wines and alcohol, and various pastries. If you go during brunch on the weekends, expect a wait.

Parkway Deli is a hidden staple of the Bethesda/Chevy Chase community! Brunch can be quite crowded so get there early but their food is the best around! Advice: if there's a long line for brunch or lunch, get it as take out and sit out side at their tables. Call ahead for take out to skip the line. Great pastries and desserts!! I've never had a bad meal and have been going there for years! My favorite sandwich is the turkey and brie!

Go to place for nice variety and good quality food. This is a real deli with quality meats and over stuffed sandwiches.

If breakfast is your favorite meal (it is mine) then this is the place to go. Weekends get really crowded but the wait is worth it!! limitless coffee, eggs, toast and bacon keep me coming back.

Let me preface my comments by saying that I love both the food and the service provided by the waitresses. I have been going to Parkway Deli for the past 30 years and have found it to be a congenial environment until quite recently. I observed two instances where the cook completely disrespected one of the waitresses by raising his voice when she placed a waffle order. He yelled back about the machine being broken and I was shocked. Had she known that, I'm sure she would have told the customer to order something else. The second concern is how slippery the restaurant floor is. I was also there and watched a waitress fall and that scared me because if I fall, I will probably get seriously hurt because of my age. I hope the owner reads these concerns and speaks to the cook about his insulting comments, in front of customers, and provides a more safe environment for those of us who remember the "old Parkway Deli."

What a great place to eat! Egg Chesapeake and Pumpkin Pancakes were delicious! Had to wait a little while for seating but it was worth it. Was really busy Saturday at lunch time. Food came pretty quickly. Highly recommend this place for brunch!

My family of 3 had a perfect morning here. My wife likes simple and sweet, french toast was just that. I had crab cake eggs benedict, really amazing flavor for 10 bucks. Short wait for Sunday at 10AM, nice waitress, fast service, hot coffee, fresh food. Will be our go-to spot for Sunday brunch. 22 bucks for 2 coffee, french toast, side bacon, and the special.

Great deli sandwiches. Fun little kitschy place to grab a sandwich. The service is typically frazzled and stays out of your way, which is nice, but don't expect your water to be topped off every 2 minutes. If you don't want to deal with the service, grab something to go. I have never waited more than 25 minutes for a couple sandwiches. The deli sandwiches/wraps/paninis can't be beat. My wife loves the reuben and I am a fan of the brisket. Also, keep in mind, any gravy you get will not be that weird brown gravy midwesterners are used to... it is the delicious red, tomatoey Eastern European style gravy. The avocado steak salad is also very good. Try the macaroni & cheese and eggplant fries for sides. I can't think of a bad thing here and I have eaten there a lot. The prices may seem a bit steep, but you get a ton of food - each sandwich could easily work one meal and a light lunch the next day. This is a neighborhood gem!

If you want a great breakfast, a sandwhich to go, a dinner of crab cakes, excellent soups, meatloaf to make your mouth water and a tall slice of cake, look no further. Fast, friendly servers. Good with slight substitutions, and always willing to pour you more coffee. Hit up the nosh bar while you wait for your goodies to arrive. They put out a buffet of pickled items for your noshing pleasure! Bread and butter, dill spears, baby gherkins, beets, onions, baby corn, the works! There might be a wait for a table, but it's worth it. Or skip the wait, call ahead and grab the goodies to go! Need a decent, inexpensive bottle of wine? Grab one on your way out. Oh and some Gifford's ice-cream to go with the rest of that slice of cake you won't finish because its huge!
